Publishers Description

Palmer LaRue is running out of birthdays. For as long as he can remember, he's dreaded the day he turns ten -- the day he'll take his place beside all the other ten-year-old boys in town, the day he'll be a wringer. But Palmer doesn't want to be a wringer. It's one of the first things he learned about himself and it's one of the biggest things he has to hide. In Palmer's town being a wringer is an honor, a tradition passed down from father to son. Palmer can't stop himself from being a wringer just like he can't stop himself from growing one year older, just like he can't stand up to a whole town -- right? Newbery Medal winner Jerry Spinelli's most powerful novel yet is a gripping tale of how one boy learns how not to be afraid.

wringer kids  Mar 28, 2007
This story is full of surprises, which really made me want to keep reading. In one point of the story Palmer tells the "gang" that he does not want to become a wringer. This surprised me greatly because I thought that Palmer would become a wringer so he could keep his friends. I learned to always show your feelings and don't do something that you don't want to do just to get friends. I recommend this Fiction-Horror genre to readers of all ages.

Not All Birthdays are Welcome  Mar 15, 2007
Wringer is about a boy named Palmer. He is in a gang. Every one in his gang wants to become a wringer. Palmer is different. One day a pigeon shows up at his window. Nipper. When Palmer turns ten, he will have to choose if he will become a wringer or not. This could be the biggest thing in his life. This is a great book, you should read it. Read through all of Palmer's adventures!!!

"Snots" is accepted into the crowd as he turns nine. Just a week after his birthday is Pigeon Day, his most feared day of the year. That is when he is scared to even watch, not to mention to wring the pigeons. Snots fears his ninth year of his life, knowing that he will soon be forced to wring the pigeons. Snots must hide the secret of his "pet" pigeon.

This book brings life to pigeons and is an awesome book to young readers. I like this book because of the tension that builds every page, just like all other Jerry Spinelli books.

THIS BOOK IS THE COOLEST!!!   Jan 10, 2007
This book tells about a boy named Palmer that is turning ten but he's happy and sad at the same time. He's happy because he's reaching double digits and he's getting older. But he also has to do something he does'nt like WRINGING BIRDS NECKS!! So Palmer is trying to find ways that he does'nt have to do it without being called a baby. If you have a problem like him this could be the book for you and if you like Jerry Spinelli then you will LOVE THIS BOOK! Also if you love books that are about someone's first time doing something they dont want to do THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!! SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, READ THIS BOOK!!
Palmer LaRue  Dec 7, 2006
In this book, a boy named Palmer is living in a town that has a festival every year that involves shooting pigeons. In this part of the festival, every ten year old boy in the town becomes a wringer. Wringers wring the necks of the wounded pigeons to ensure their deaths. Every boy in the town can't wait until their tenth birthday. Every boy except for Palmer. Palmer lives his life dreading the day that he turns ten. With his new "friends" Beans, Mutto, and Henry, he gets pressured to become a wringer to stay "cool". He has another secret, though. Palmer has a pigeon, Nipper. When he becomes friends with the girl that he and the gang have been torturing, Dorothy Gruzik, a.k.a Fishface, will she give him the courage to stand up for what he believes is right?
