Item Description...
Description: This Baptist minister and theologian was a truly outstanding man and one of the most attractive personalities in church history. C.H. Spurgeon called Fuller, "The greatest theologian of his century," while his close friend, William Carey (1761-1834) expressed the thought of many who were personally acquainted with him, when he said, "I loved him." Converted in 1769, Fuller was called to the pastorate of his family's church (1775). These were the formative years of his ministry, when his theological understanding was sharpened through close study of the writings of Jonathan Edwards, and by his life-long friendships with his closest ministerial colleagues, Robert Hall Sr., John Ryland Jr., and John Sutcliff. In 1782 he became pastor of the Baptist church in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Here he spent 33 fruitful years in pastoral ministry, theological controversy, and missionary endeavour. Perhaps the most significant event in his ministry here was the publishing in 1785 (second edition 1801) of his The Gospel Worthy of All Acceptation. Its main purpose was to set forth the truth that "faith in Christ is the duty of all men who hear, or have opportunity to hear, the gospel." This epoch-making book", says Michael Haykin, "sought to be faithful to the central emphases of historic Calvinism while at the same time attempting to leave preachers with no alternative but to drive home to their hearers the universal obligations of repentance and faith." Its significance cannot be exaggerated, for it led directly to Fuller's whole-hearted involvement in the formation of the Baptist Missionary Society (1792) and the subsequent sending of the Society's most famous missionary, William Carey to India (1793). The dominant theme of Fuller's Works is "the grace of God in the gospel." In his last letter to his friend John Ryland, Jr., Fuller testified: "I have preached and written much against the abuse of the doctrine of grace, but that doctrine is all my salvation and all my desire. I have no other hope than from salvation by mere sovereign, efficacious grace through the atonement of my Lord and Saviour".

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Ought to be mandatory  Feb 23, 2010
I sincerely believe that this volume should be mandatory reading for every minister of the Word of God. There is a richness and depth to these writings that is exceptional and equalled only by a very few. Those who take the time to study these pages will find them surprisingly relevant. It is my conviction that the truths espoused here need to be espoused once again. Those who haven't the time to read this volume in its entirety will find that two of his works, "The Gospel Worthy of All Acceptation" and "Strictures On Sandemanianism," are especially worth reading.

Inconsistent and Confusing  Sep 28, 2009
I was excited to see Fuller being made available in print, over the years I've read about the disputes between Fuller and others, but I was disappointed after reading the pdf version. Andrew Fuller can be inconsistent and confusing at times. His polemics against William Huntington, they referred to each other as antinomians for different reasons, seems to be fuelled by emotion and little else. There was no interaction with Huntington's works, just reference to his character, which Fuller received as second hand gossip.

This is a collection of writings and opinions of Andrew Fuller concerning the controversies he was embroiled in. It's not a systematic theological work but does contain some of Fuller's theological thoughts and opinions. It's a thick book that takes up a lot of space, space that could be used for other volumes of greater worth.

beware of double talk  Jul 22, 2009
Andrew Fuller follows the New England theology on the atonement. Even though he calls it "limited atonement", what he advocates is an indefinite atonement for nobody in particular. It's not for everybody. It's not for anybody. It's general and indefinite because Fuller denies that the sins of the elect were imputed to Christ. He says that Christ was punished because of sins, but without any legal transfer of the sins themselves to Christ. So Andrew Fuller only makes the application of the atonement sovereign and limited. Fuller turns the good news of the gospel into law and the basis of condemnation.
Andrew Fuller was also abusive toward Baptists who taught the gospel of particular redemption, especially against John Gill and Abraham Booth. For more on the errors of Fullerism, read Booth's "Divine Justice Essential to Divine Character" or William Rushton on "particular redemption".

If you say that Christ died for everybody in some way which is not enough, and that also Christ died for the elect so they will meet the conditions for the application of the death for everybody, which of these gospels do you preach? Do you preach election for the application, and thus the need for regeneration before faith? My guess is that you do not. Rather, you preach the "for everybody but not enough" lie that most everybody else teaches.
Review from  Feb 10, 2009
This is a great collection of the life and writings of Andrew Fuller, the British Baptist Pastor and founder of the Baptist Missionary Society which sent William Carey to India. It is in the original language of Fuller, so it is sometimes difficult to follow. This is also a bulky volume at over 1100 pages (and a large book at that) but worth it for the low cost.

If you want a good collection of Fuller with letters, sermons, books, pamphlets and a memoir at a low cost, this is the volume for you.
