Item Description...
This new volume in the Word Biblical Commentary shows how the book of Daniel develops along two major themes: the exploits of Daniel and his friends as members of the royal court, and the revelations of the future given to Daniel. Goldingay holds that the prophecies had immediate meaning for the Jews and were not intended to speak directly about events centuries later. This complete translation and verse-by-verse commentary helps readers understand the prophet's messages to his original audience and accurately interpret the text today.

Publishers Description

The Word Biblical Commentary delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. This series emphasizes a thorough analysis of textual, linguistic, structural, and theological evidence. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Stretches the contours of evangelical intepretation  Feb 23, 2008
Goldingay holds that the book of Daniel, and its prophecies, were written after the events actually occured, significantly stretching the defintion of "prophecy," not to mention the doctrines of inerrancy and infallibility.

The layout of the Word Biblical Commentary series is like a puzzle that needs solving before the reader can find what they're looking for. Frankly, its frustrating. Sections pertaining to the historical context of Daniel keep this book from receiving zero stars. Recommendation: Pass on this one.
Good Commentary  Feb 16, 2007
Goldingay does a great job in his commentery giving the ready pleanty of material for study and scripture expounding.
