Item Description...
You've probably noticed that America has changed, and not for the better. We are a confused people who want to post the Ten Commandments in public, but we often don't live by them in our private lives. Christians are more apt to entrust their hopes and futures to the state than they are their God. Believers are often more passionate about their politics than they are the redemption of their communities. We are a people divided between moralists and relativists, and neither side has all the answers. We are a people without a vision, and without a vision the people perish. What can save us from ourselves? The answer - as it has always been - is THE CHURCH. But for THE CHURCH to prevail in this generation it must get back to basics and boldly proclaim the vision of grace found only in the transforming truth of the Word of God. Steve Deace is the host of Deace in the Afternoon on News Radio 1040-WHO in Des Moines, one of the most powerful talk stations in the United States. He and his wife, Amy, have three children - Anastasia, Zoe, and Noah- Andrew and reside in West Des Moines, Iowa. Steve and Amy are very active in their church, where Steve leads a weekly discipleship course. Steve is a magazine publisher and speaks to various ministries and organizations in his spare time.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Throwing down the gauntlet  Aug 30, 2009
I read this book twice in July 2009. The author is the host of a conservative, openly Christian radio talk show on WHO in Des Moines. I really enjoy the show and have been challenged to think more critically because of the type of guests he has on the show. So I figured I'd enjoy the book too.

Steve Deace is similar to me in age and thoughts on the world, politics, people, and religion. This book gives me a more complete backstory as to why he is where he is at today as a man. Specifically a Christian man. The book is written in a very modern, conversational style. So it is very easy to read and understand.

Christians will hate this book. Mainly due to the fact that he spends most of the time challenging the reader (assuming they are Christian) about their faith and devotion to God. While the message applies to everyone, I believe he is speaking mainly to the GenX and GenYers who are struggling with their faith, their life, and the direction of our country. I need and enjoy this daily dose of reality. Steve douses you with reality. Most Christians, including me, like to gloss over the things we do each day with the assumption "God is okay with that. It's not like I killed anyone." The author sticks that logic back in the face of the reader and asks them to examine closely if that is really what we should be doing, just because God doesn't appear as a burning bush at our backyard BBQ and talk to us about what He expects of us. I think John Cusack's character, Martin Blank, in the movie "Gross Pointe Blank" sums up how many GenXers and GenYers tend to act and think... "Let's just say I have a certain moral flexibility." Christians (including me) especially need to drop that attitude.

Non-Christians will hate this book also. Mainly because Steve Deace exposes them for who they are. Which so far, the majority of Christians have failed to recognize non-Christians behavior is typically anti-Christical. What seems innocent, like homosexual marriage, abortion, pornography, pre-maritial sex, bankruptcy, etc. is really a gigantic problem. Because we have chosen to not read the Bible or selectively believe in its Truth, we don't recognize lies whether the are bald or covered. So in most cases, Christians have no clue what they truly believe. Which is why non-Christians can get by with calling us "homophobic" or "bigots" or anything else they can think of to avoid scrutiny of their believes and why they consistently debase our culture. Acts of perversion like homosexuality were concealed for much of history as it opposes the Laws of Nature, the Laws of God, and in the Laws of Man. But because so few people have been corrupted by this sexual deviance we ig
