Publishers Description
'Where's our confidence? Our hope? Is it possible that, in our hyper-vigilance against our enemies, real or perceived, we've taken our eyes off of Jesus, our protector and Redeemer?' Author Karen Spears Zacharias observes that, more and more often, Christians are letting fear blind them to the love of the very God they worship. Zacharias examines the world around us and the events that shape our lives, weaving a compelling exploration of faith versus fear. How is it that those of us who claim to be so firmly founded can be so easily shaken? How do we believe that a God who loves us more than we can comprehend can be willed by us to harm those who do not share our beliefs? Writing with passion while avoiding the extremes of contemporary discussion, Zacharias melds social commentary, insightful spirituality, and a rapier wit in a profound meditation on the nature of faith, 'the evidence of things not yet seen'.

Where's Your Fear?  Mar 2, 2010
Karen Spears Zacharias confronts fear in her book Where's Your Jesus Now?, but does so with a fist in the air. Spears Zacharias writes in a familiar Southern drawl that disarms readers, but make no mistake--she means business.

The book focuses on how fear can eat away at the foundation of faith, making life a nightmare. She examines many real-life stories of people who have overcome--and some that have succumbed to--fear.

But the theme hovering over all of these stories is that Christians shouldn't be ruled by fear. Faith in Jesus is what offers relief from the fear that living in a dangerous, violent world often brings. Spears Zacharias does a great job of illustrating that in this book that is fun to read, but is deep in its own special way.
Where's Your Jesus Now?  Feb 6, 2009
Author/journalist Karen Spears Zacharias openly asks in our hyper-vigilance against our real or perceived enemies, have we taken our eyes off of Jesus, our Protector and Redeemer? Zacharias examines the world we live in and the events shaping our lives, giving the reader an insightful exploration of faith versus fear.

Her first chapter begins with the captivating story of Eric Shannon, Robin Hocker and gray-haired grandmother Shirley Dunham's response to the question "Where's Your Jesus Now?" "He's right here." In a series of essays, (many pulled from Zacharias' days as a crime reporter), she digs into the mystery of faith and the grip of fear many American Christians have allowed into their lives.

Zacharias doesn't sugarcoat her opinions. For example, a direct quote that should give every Christ-follower a reality slap on the back of the head: "We are a loud, angry, revenge-seeking nation. We insist on this notion that God's main obligation is to spank those we mark as misbehavin' and to whup up on those people we don't like much. We don't want God to be our judge, per se, but we sure as heck expect him to be our Avenger. We distort God into our own personal Terminator . . . Every tornado, every earthquake, every drought, every genocide, and every hot day is one more reminder that people have got to repent or perish. No worries for those of us in the community of faith, however. God is our designated hitter, ensuring our personal victory in ball games, in battles, and in finding a good parking space . . ."

This compelling and passionate look at how fear eclipses faith in frightening times also demonstrates how to confront what you fear most, wrestle with it, and then release it--freeing yourself as well.

I found her reasoning sound even though I didn't agree with her on every point. She is not a raving lunatic on top of her soapbox or a loose-lipped woman after having a few too many drinks. Her political commentary is often bittersweet: mixed with stinging sarcasm and yet revealing nuggets of truth. She asks tough questions like, "How do we believe that a God who loves us more than we can comprehend can be willed by us to harm those who do not share our beliefs?" She challenges us to rethink our paradigm. Zacharias doesn't pretend to have all the answers. Her tone is both conversational and tolerant. Her thoughts on the religion of Certainosity is seen in this poignant quote, "It seems to me that a faith without forgiveness, without love, without redemption, is nothing more that a set of rules by which we seek to gain power over others. That kind of man-made religion, that religion of certainosity, fashions God into a pissed-off father, dropping shell casings on our head as we cower under a sleeping bag on the floorboard, weeping in fear."

I'd highly recommend picking up a copy of Where's Your Jesus Now?
You won't be disappointed as you work through "how" faith and fear play out in your life.

Swear words, homosexualtiy, and everything else Christians are afraid of.  Jan 31, 2009
I like reading books. And even more than reading just any book, I like reading good books.

And Where's Your Jesus Now by Karen Zacharias definitely fits that qualification.

In this book KZ examines the affect fear has on faith. Through stories of pain and loss and death and murder and hate and terror, fear is rampant in our world and in our lives. But through it all, God is like a "good mama," keeping us company, even in our most fevered state.

KZ strings together words and stories with the ease of a friendly memoir, inviting you to keep turning page after page, reading story after story. And seriously people, it's amazing. So go buy one, borrow one, or do whatever it takes to read it!

(And watch out for chapter ten. Because you won't stop crying.)
Heartfelt and challenging...  Dec 27, 2008
I've been a faithful reader of Karen Spears Zacharias's work for years and she never disappoints. I chose "Where's Your Jesus Now?" for my book club and we enjoyed a delightful telephone conversation with Karen during our discussion. Zacharias's honesty about her fears and questions is refreshing in the realm of Christian books. What a relief for someone not to have all the answers and admit it! Whether you agree or disagree with what she writes, her style is so warm and endearing you can't help but wish you could meet her for lunch to shoot the breeze. "Where's Your Jesus Now?" is a must-read for anyone who grapples with fear and needs someone who's been there to lend a hand.
Wheres your Jesus now  Dec 22, 2008
Karen has a quick wit and a fast draw. She is very straight forward with her beliefs and her short comings. This is a book that every pastor, sunday school teacher, actually anyone who claims to be a christian should read.It shows our fears (prejudices) and how much we not only let them run and ruin our lives, but we don't want to stop there, we want to teach those same fears to our children and anyone else that will listen.Karen points out the real strenght of faith in her stories on a been there done that level. Very refreshing in this day and age. I highly recommend this work to all who want to advance in their faith and their walk with God
