Overview
More than ever, Christians are bombarded with tough faith questions from their pluralistic friends and neighbors. Many of these emerge as "anti-truth claims" and slogans we are all familiar with:
Why not just look out for yourself?
Do what you want--just as long as you don't hurt anyone
Miracles violate the laws of nature
Aren't people born gay?
Paul Copan has been answering questions like these for many years. In When God Goes to Starbucks, he offers readers solid and caring Christian responses to these and many other concerns that are being discussed in Starbucks, shopping malls, youth groups, and schools. Each chapter provides succinct answers and points for countering the cultural questions believers are faced with today.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
When God Goes to Starbucks.  Mar 14, 2010
I was very excited to read this book after noting the title. The subjects covered were just what I was looking for in discussing the Christian faith. However, I was very disappointed once I began to read it. The language is hyper intellectualized and difficult to read. Every page was such a mental exorcise, that I gave up. I am a reasonably intelligent person that does quite a bit of reading, but this book seems geared towards the intellectual. I appreciate the work that Copan has done here and wish that it had been more user friendly for a casual reader.

Reasonable Christian apologetic book  Mar 24, 2009
I've used this as a Sunday class material to provide as a springboard for discussions and such. The author tried hard to presents issues that are good topical material. Because of the format and nature of the book (an intro level apologetic and not a 400 to 500 college/graduate level ethics and philosophy treatises), it falls short for the depth of discussions that I was aiming for.

Misleading Title  Mar 20, 2009
This book contains thoughtful, well-stated, fully expressed apologetics. However, its catchy title and trendy cover is misleading; it implies that the book is a reader-friendly guide to answering tough universal questions about God. In this regard, Copan's book really misses the mark. It is written more for the academic rather than your average Christian caffeine addict, like myself. So, if you could use some help giving tangible, biblical responses to questions like "If God is good, then why is there so much suffering?" then I recommend Randy Newman's book Questioning Evangelism. After you read it, bring a seeking friend to the nearest Starbucks, and start a "God" conversation over a cup o' Joe.

When God goes to Starbucks... or something like that.  Dec 21, 2008
Initially, picking up this book, I was extremely excited. A book, that is an "everyday" guide to apologetics. Great. A simplified version of an often over-intellectualized subject. I thought this would make an excellent tool for teaching my sunday school course on apologetics... to middle and highschool students. Turns out I was wrong. I found that Copan was often "thesaurizing" his book, by that I mean it seemed like he took out a thesaurus and tried to find replacement words for 30 percent of the book. It felt like he was trying to sound intellectual to validate his points... this is a guide to help people, not a guide to defend against some pseudo-intellectual trying to intimidate us by their poorly utilized vocabulary. So, the need for an expansive vocabulary is minimal.
Indeed, some of his points are well thought out... but it felt like they were thought out by someone else. Even when I found some original thought, it was geared only to a specific argument. In fact, that is, how this entire book is set up. Based off of certain phrases, or "slogans", one might encounter in a discussion... at Starbucks? I find that this is a poor form of apologetics; this is a form attacking a specific argument, not addressing fundamental issues within one's world-view. I

Good philosophical grounding for a meaningful apologetic  Dec 12, 2008
Reasoning effectively is important to doing good intellectual work that affects how we live our lives with meaning and integrity. Philosophy is the key to doing this well, and Copan has a thoughtful and accessible way of writing that is simultaneously honest, deep, and meaningful. As a fan of Starbucks, Philosophy, and practical Theology, I recommend this book! - B. Patrick Williams, Philosophy and Religion Professor
