Item Description...
What do birds and bees have to do with it?

Chances are, most of us learned about sex in informal settings like theschoolyard, from our friends, and from television. Some of us even hadthe uncomfortable ?sex talk? with our parents. And we've never lookedat birds and bees the same way since. But even though sex seems to beeverywhere in today's culture, we still can't seem to comfortable talkabout it with each other. So it's no wonder that it can bemisunderstood, misused and, well, a mystery.

Popular author Matthew Paul Turner takes a candid look at this tabootopic through a refreshingly real approach. With his signature styleand humorous insights, Matthew tackles tough issues such as pornographyand abstinence, while providing ideas for pursuing sexuality, insingleness and marriage, from an honest, spiritual perspective. All ofwhich can lead to a better understand of God's plan for sex, despitethe awkward sex talk.

Move Over Christian Kama Sutra  Oct 26, 2008
I have to admit that the concept of healthy Christian sexuality seems to be a misnomer. Aside from "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," I have yet to delve into the vast array of Christian literature about sex. Matthew Paul Turner offers a unique perspective to the subject, which is much different than my preconceived notion of a Christian book about sex. The book is witty and sometimes borderline obnoxious and sarcastic (He refers to the church as being "the masturbation police"), but the subject matter kept me reading.

It seemed as if the book didn't get cooking till about the last section, which is more of a discussion about sex in marriage. The other sections discussed how messed up Christians are in terms of pornography and how Christian young people call themselves virgins while engaging in everything except for what is considered traditional intercourse.

I doubt anyone will entirely agree with all of the author's statements in the book, but I think there are different perspectives presented and it's not as though everyone will see eye-to-eye on this subject matter. For example, the author suggests that oral sex and condoms are cool for married people and masturbation may not be a sin. I know for a fact that all Christians do not agree on that, but a more candid discussion of sex is what we need more of in churches and Christian circles. More of a discussion about what is good about it and how it relates to marriage rather than the off-limits message that's presented to teens. We're not looking for a Christian Kama Sutra, but if Christian organizations are focusing on the family, why not focus on healthy sexuality--because that's what makes the family and that union joins the souls of husbands and wives and creates new life.
Started off a little slowly...  Oct 18, 2007

I will start by saying that the further I got into this book, my opinions changed a bit towards the positive. I'm the kind of person who may only read 10-20 pages at a time, or at the most, 50-60 over a lunch break. If a book doesn't grab me within the first few sessions of reading, then it will likely end up being forgotten about and never finished. This book almost ended up there. Fortunately, I had a serious interest in the topic, so I persisted.

All of the information in this book will likely not apply to anyone, but everyone can find something in this book that applies to them. The topics run the gamut, from high school to college to single adult life to married life and even delves into addictions and lustful temptations. In case you haven't figured it out yet, this book is about sex from a "Christian perspective". I put that in quotes because there are so many books out there that claim this. I have a problem with a lot of these books. They all claim to be Biblically based, yet they sometimes head in opposite directions. This book is honest and does not claim to be the ultimate truth. It claims to be the opinion of one man and others that he has talked to, but he leaves the details to you.

Many other reviewers have praised the humor of the book. I appreciated the humor as well, but only to a certain point. When I started seeing jokes and humorous references more than once per page, it became almost tiring and hard to follow. Thankfully, if you stick it out, the content starts to shine through all of the humor.

As a whole, I would recommend the book. Although not all sections will apply to you, I bet it will help you understand others who struggle with those issues. It's never a bad thing to learn more about other people. The book is full of a lot of great information, advice and even a bit of hope for those who struggle. Matthew Paul Turner keeps the focus where it should be, on living your life as God intended you to. After all, don't you think that God might know what He's doing?
Great Read!  May 18, 2007
An absolutely great read for all ages. This book is brutally honest and descriptive, which, at times, make the reader a bit uncomfortable, but it's the honesty that makes this book great. Mr. Turner does a great job of presenting really sensitive material in a light hearted yet serious spiritual manner. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in 1) learning more about how we can discuss sex as a Christian, 2) how to live a healthy sexual lifestyle as a Christian, 3) how to improve one's married sex life through the ideas and principles God has laid out for us. I have started to recommend this to my college friends because it has changed the way I have viewed married sex. I used to think it was a bad thing and the author has used the Bible as a guideline to really show the reader that God created this wonderful experience for our enjoyment and that we shouldn't be afraid to embrace it (in the correct way, of course). Mr. Turner's witty humor, vivid descriptions, and overall understanding of what the Bible has to say about sex, makes this book a must have for anyone who wants to grow and learn more about the topic of sex.
amazing, honest, witty, and freeing!  Mar 9, 2007
I grew up in the "sex is only good in the context of marriage so we aren't going to talk about it --EVER-- until you're married, and while you're at it, go ahead and kiss dating goodbye" Christian theology of thought. Matthew used both humor and truth to weasel his way into my mind and heart and changed me forever. I was better prepared for marriage, a healthy sex life, and healthy sex conversations because of this book. I wouldn't pass this one along to your junior high cousin or anything, but mature Christians ready to take a long and honest look at something truly beautiful and God-created (I mean sex here, not Matthew's book :) should read this at least twice.
You Gotta Read This Book!  Oct 10, 2006
Matthew Paul Turner presents the facts on sex with his own witty commentary to create one of the best books I have ever read on Sex. You may be thinking this is just like any other Christian book on Sex, but it isn't! Matthew covers the toughies and presents the information in such a way that gives you the freedom to think for yourself on various topics. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
