Item Description...
America is the throes of a cultural war--one that threatens us from within and without. So-called "progressive" individuals and organizations are falsely using the words of our founding fathers to achieve the antithesis of their design for our nation. The first Americans sought freedom of religion; today we face freedom from religion. The framers of the constitution sought liberty; modern interpretations promote licentiousness. The early settlers believed in absolute morality; today's liberals advocate relative morality. This book offers encouragement about God's providential hand on our nation--and hope that it's not too late to save. The authors provide a specific blueprint and restore our country to its original intent.

Publishers Description
In this sweeping analysis of America from its inception to the present day - and into the future - Dr. D. James Kennedy and Jerry Newcombe challenge many of today's beliefs, which have strayed from those of our founding fathers and are impacting each American's life in hidden, insidious ways. Beliefs like: There are no absolutes. All truth is relative . . . Kennedy asks, if this is so, how dare we say that the Nazis were wrong for killing millions of people? And if there are no absolutes, there is no God, because God is the ultimate absolute. This belief is veiled, cloaked atheism. Thomas Jefferson advocated that religion be separated from the state . . . The real Thomas Jefferson was not a poster child for the ACLU, Kennedy shows, but a president who required that oaths be sworn on the Bible, a president who allowed government property and facilities to be used for worship, and a president who exempted churches from taxation. The real Thomas Jefferson is the ACLU's worst nightmare Gaming (known for centuries as gambling and now renamed by its proponents) is a harmless sport . . . Yet some 60 million Americans are adversely affected by the 12 to 15 million gambling addicts in this country. Kennedy asks, ?Why not return to the economic principles that made Americans great, which can be found in the Bible: don't steal; don't covet; if you want to eat, you must work; and be generous with your goods to help your family, your neighbor, and the poor Islam is a religion of peace . . . The teaching of jihad is imbedded in the Koran, and fanatical Muslims define jihad as ?holy war.? Kennedy reminds us: ?Mohammed said that people were to give their sons for Allah. The Bible says that God gave His Son for you and me.? Many of these fallacious beliefs, Kennedy and Newcombe say, are tearing us apart as a country: ?If we are ever to experience a new birth of freedom, we need to get a handle on these key issues and apply the mind of Christ to them.? Some might say that much of what is in this book is politically incorrect - but others would testify that it must be said. Listen and decide for yourself

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Flawed book, but readable  Dec 2, 2006
Dr. Kennedy analyzes American history using the Bible. However, his research and conclusions are flawed. I will admit that I agree with some of the points he makes, as I am a Christian.

However, I do not believe for one second that America ever was a Christian nation. Having read several books on the subject, including Kennedy's, I came to the conclusion that the founding fathers wanted the freedom to practice religion in the privacy of their homes and churches, and not to have the state dictate to them what they could and could not believe. Jon Meacham's excellent book "American Gospel" is a much better researched book than Kennedy's fundamentalist views on what America should be like.
The people who are giving this book a bad rating havent even read it...  May 26, 2006
This is a great book. I am 16 years old and I find this book simply true. Christians living in America need to wake up and speak up!We need to stop worrying about if we are going to hurt someones feelings or not by metioning the word "God" in public places(need I remind you we Christians also have the right of freedom of speech as well). We also as Christians need to say to the atheist who are taking down the ten commandments, crosses, and etc, hey that offends me. Whether people believe it or not ATHEISM IS A RELIGION, it is what someone personally believes in which is what any other relgion is, something you believe in.
Poppycock  Jan 31, 2006
As is typical of all of D. James Kennedy's writings and speeches, this one is full of poppycock too. To come to the conclusions that he has come to in this book, one would have to totally and completely ignore the facts of history.
That, sadly, is what the so called Christian Reconstructionists, of which the "Rev" Kennedy is a member, do all the time. To the rest of us, that is referred to as being a Liar for Jesus. That is not what real Christians should do however, but Kennedy shows no conscience when it comes to that however and that is truly the sad part.
I only gave it five stars because I couldn't give it six  Sep 26, 2005
D. James Kennedy (the D stands for Divine) has written his best book yet. I just sat up all night reading this in a single session, while watching TBN on television and eating Chee-Toes (the crunchy kind, not the "puffs"). I have long thought D to be a genius. He invented the Evangelism Explosion witnessing technique, in which you go door-to-door and ask folks, "if you were to die today, and God asked you why He should allow you to enter Heaven, what would you tell Him?" Brilliant. This question always shakes people up. This book is so solid in its logic and scholarship, it is worthy of the genius who created "EE". I can't wait for America to truly become a Christian nation. I think DJ Kennedy's writings will be used as the cornerstone when our new theocratic government finally is put into place. When we outlaw all false religions and shut down Hollywood once and for all, then America will be a great country once again. Just like it was in the days before we got all soft-hearted and started treating the women and coloreds like normal people. They should change the laws so that our born-again Christian president Bush can stay in office for the rest of his natural life, and Dr. Kennedy should be made Vice President, because Cheney is a good man, but I am not so sure that he is a Christian, because sometimes he says nasty words when he gets angry. You must read this book. After you read it, you will agree that the Bible got it right when it said we should stone homosexuals and make the women keep silent in church. Praise God and pass the ammo. Iraq, here I come.
Christian nation?  Aug 9, 2005
I am a Christian, I love and follow Jesus. I have not read this book but I intend too. However I do read many books on American History and I do know that America was NEVER a Christian nation. What is a Christian? Previously, in the 1980s and back to the beginning, people in the U.S. used to believe they were Christians because they lived in the U.S. and were not Jewish. Many people in the 18th century believed in God, Jesus, and the Bible but were not "Christians." It is fair to say that the majority at one point considered themselves Christians. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin even came under heavy public scrutiny and were called atheists for being liberal with their religous views. That shows that the majority were more on the conservative side. However, Christians today need to come to grips with the fact that this country was founded on the principles of freedom, especially religous freedom, and the church needs to do its job without relying on politicians to be the conscience in the community.
