Item Description...
The crash of breaking glass woke me. I knew instantly that the terrorists had broken into our mission. Thus Miss Hege was suddenly catapulted into the world spotlight through her harrowing four-day pursuit and her companion's murder by Congo terrorists. Her vivid personal account of playing a deadly game of hide-and-seek with communist-trained terrorists provides us with the first book-length narrative of terrorist raids on Congolese missionary compounds.

Serving God in the Congo  Jan 7, 2008
Ruth Hege depicts the story of serving God in the Congo in fluid, image-invoking words and phrases. It is a story of service, adventure, danger and true sacrifice. The unraveling of the facts as they are presented places the reader along side her as she serves the Lord. This true story is written by a courageous woman who was personally known to our family, who served God with determination and sacrifice. It is not just a story that should be read just by present day missionaries, but a story which everyone who reads it would be moved to do their part to help their fellow human being. I highly recommend this story!

Attack and Rescue in the Congo  Jan 8, 2006
"The crash of breaking glass woke me. I knew instantly that the terrorists had broken into our mission. My companion, Irene, and I had time only to throw an a few clothes before they grabbed us. They were frenzied, and kept shouting, 'Bima, bima' (Things, things). They wanted our money. linen, clothes - anything valuable. I was sure that they were drugged from smoking hemp....Maddened, they couldn't seem to stop. They pulled and pushed us fifty feet across the grass..."

Thus Miss Hege was suddenly catapulted into the world spotlight through her harrowing four-day pursuit and her companion's murder by Congo terrorists. Her vivid personal account of playing a deadly game of hide-and seek with communist-trained terrorists provides us with the first book-length narrative of terrorist raids on Congolese missionary compounds. The continuing murder of Congolese missionaries, including Dr. Paul Carlson, adds further significance to the story of Ruth Hege and Irene Ferrel.

"We Two Alone" does not simply retell their personal struggle, however; it supplies fresh insight into the faith and dedication, the purpose and difficulties, of men and women who serve God under the most demanding conditions on earth today. The commitment to take the Christian Gospel to those in darkness is shown in the day-to-day life of the two women suddenly thrust into the spotlight after years of unheralded devoted service.

It will be the rare reader who will put this book down until he has read the entire account. Though it is not fiction, these facts, born out of the crucible of human experience, read like fiction , yet give us an insight into the purpose, problems, and pathos of modern missionary endeavor. -- from book's dustjacket
