A must read on the spiritual issues that may accompany DID  Jun 9, 2008
This book was absolutely vital to me as I was helping a friend with DID navigate the spiritual minefield encountered on her healing journey. Applying the principles in this book can lead to significant breakthroughs in the healing process. In the right hands this book is a powerful and essential tool as there is no other book out there that deals with the subject matter in such a comprehensive manner. The material in this book should only be used by those who have experience working with people with DID and by those who know how to deal with the spiritual issues that may be associated with DID in a sensitive manner.
Uncovery the mysteries of MPD  May 17, 2008
I found this book did what its title says having read 'the Flock' and 'First Person Plural' Freisens book lead me to and underatning of what the issues were, issues were related to client cases so made for informed logical reading. A great help to my professional development in this area. I have been working with many clients adult survivors of child abuse but was ill informed on the issues of MPD/ this book had been invaluable to me and therefore I hope to my clients. MEO
excellent resource with some glitches  May 5, 2008
I was given this book to read by a priest because of the struggles of a family member. The information provided is sound and well researched and kudos to the author for giving more exposure to Satanic Ritual Abuse--what it is and how it destroys lives.

I have a couple of qualms with the book and they are minor. I have read the reviews accusing the book/author of destroying lives, and yet I would hold that minister and myself accountable. I found critical thinking quite helpful in reading this book, especially since it is dated--I have the 1991 version. I was especially confused by the author's use of the term inner voices (dont we all kind of dialogue with ourselves as we make decisions?) and merging in reference to the alters. Isn't integration of a fragmented self the goal of even more mundane diagnoses? I only wish Friesen had been a little more specific in his meaning in the use of these terms.

That said, what he meant came a little clearer later in the book. I really respected his caution not to go around exorcising demons out of those with MPD, but rather to accept each personality and attempt to befriend it. I congratulate Friesen on his boldness in taking the initiative in a field that often rejects that which it cannot quantify and objectify, to bring to light the prevalence and deleltarious effects of ritual abuse.

This book is well worth the read and offers great insight into MPD and ritual abuse. I would caution those who are easily swayed into absorbing what they read to think for themselves and read critically.
A Much Needed Christian Perspective  Sep 12, 2007
I must say, I found this to be a wonderful, simple, and very practical book. I also found that I had a hard time putting it down as well. Friesen does an exquisite job of explaining such matters as signs that your client may be a dissociator, dissociative ability and it's role in the preservation of the trauma victim, and Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA). In addition, he discusses several matters within the Christian realm such as spiritual warfare and exorcism while emphasizing that while exorcism may be a helpful adjunctive measure to *some* clients' therapy (and he discusses when this might be considered an option), personalities should *not* be thought of as "demonic" by any means. In fact, Friesen points out that this would be spiritual abuse. Friesen is a professional with a master's degree in theology and a Ph.D. in psychology. He is also a born again Christian. He was well qualified to write this book and his voice and perspective are much needed in the field. In addition, he comes across as having a great deal of compassion and respect for his clients. I *highly* recommend this book (enough that I myself bought more than one copy) to any Christian who may be curious about DID, any pastor, any Christian therapist, any psychology student interested in the integration of psychology and Christianity, and any Christian who is a survivor of prolonged childhood trauma.
Educational  Jun 1, 2007
This book was on a reading list and suggested by my pastor. I have been in the medical field for almost 20 years and never understood some of the things that I do now after reading this book. It is amazing that God developed us so well and we don't even understand the complexity of it all. He knew of what each one of us would go through and developed our mind in such a way that even it can help us deal with it. Also after abuse and so many things it helps you learn why a person may be acting the way that they are. I wish more people would write this way I could hardly put it down.
