Item Description...
Continuing an Ancient Tradition In the early days of Christianity, when the first intellectuals became converts, a strong tradition of "Faith seeking understanding" was begun. Reaching high points with Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas, it has found members today with Chesterton and Teilhard de Chardin. The tales in this volume are in that tradition and take a modern, but more parabolic approach. They are aimed at mature religious leaders, the kind who were the students of the Author for almost three decades in Berkeley at the Graduate Theologial Union.

Good Reading  Sep 17, 2007
Two thought provoking stories which suggest new ways of imagining "Life After Death" and the "Creation of the Universe" from the Big Bang to the appearance of humans. The stories will fascinate while initiating questions for discussion and debate. The stories flow and the reader is invited to reflect on basic concepts from a new and creative perspective. "Faith Seeking Understanding" is an accurate description of the author's goal, accomplished in story form.

A Homily of Great Depth  Sep 16, 2007

Two Theological Tales has lots of levels as befits a work of literature. There's the stories which have plot interest and the interesting conversation of people. There's the catalogue of human failings, satanic imagination in which we participate, and the development of strategy and tactics to implement our daily decisions, and finally the counteractions of returning God's unfailing Love for each of us in devoting time, talent and treasure to the service of needs of others. There's the distinctions of Church as an institution requiring management, Theology as justification, dogma and rites as outward symbols, and the core belief: our weakness of will, sin, Christ's Atomement for all of us, our need to love in response to God's Love, our personal immortality.

In short Two Theological Tales is a personal summary homily of considerable depth. It seems to cover quite well the anxieties, weaknesses, and sins of human kind and focuses on the purpose of human life. And it offers a method (Love of others even enemies, assurance of Salvation by the Son of God, Listening, i.e., meditation and prayer) to deal with life and its obstacles.
A seekers' book.  Sep 2, 2007
The author of the tale, Out of the Darkness" owns up to the fact that his purpose is to stir the thinking of his readers. With this in mind, I believe the tale is a credible form of expression. Moreover, by the end of the tale the reader has become quite involved in wondering how the fate of the main character, Paul Blandula, will unfold. The tale is more thought-provoking than amusing, but not without both. I would recommend it for those who, as the back cover suggest, have faith, but also seek a wider understanding. The Rev. Mr. Stan Morner, Deacon of the Presbyterian Church, Walnut Creek, California.
