Reviews - What do our customers think?
A winner...  Jul 18, 2008
My daughter couldn't get enough of this book until she was about 18 months old and eating became more routine.
Tucking into food (including breastmilk), not into bed  Mar 27, 2007
The babies and toddlers in this sturdy board book are not being tucked into bed; they're "tucking into" food.

Real whole foods too. Terrific!

We influence young children quietly, often inadvertently, with books.

We can choose to glorify Candyland, exalt the very hungry caterpillar's strange diet, and promote ice-cream therapy for all manner of emotional upsets,
we can take notice as we unthinkingly program young children to crave worthless foods too much and instead get them used to better choices.

Later in life, they won't need to battle the effects of this book,Tucking In!
Right from the start, its positive attitude supports reasonable eating habits.
(I wouldn't rant so if this book weren't one of just a few sensible food related books for the youngest children, but there aren't a lot of them so it stands out.)

Jess Stockham, the creator of this book, knew what she was doing with content and format.

She makes excellent use of flaps here, not just to keep little fingers busy because flaps are fun, but to lend a bit of oomph to the comfortable surprise under each one.

An inviting, repetitive pattern on five spreads of strong, exceptionally thick pages, and lighter weight flaps involves toddlers in experiencing the book --turn to an animal enjoying its appropriate fare, lift the flap, discover one of five ethnically diverse babies or toddlers who likes the same food, and join in on the cheerful "Me Too! response.

A good mix of animals, foods and children:

An adorable mouse "likes tasty oats." Lift the flap-- "Me too!" -a bibbed baby messily spooning oatmeal.

"Lamb likes warm milk." Lift the flap-- "Me too!!" -a baby nursing (a noteworthy inclusion this appealing breastfeeding illustration. Not a big deal, of course. No explanation. No fanfare. Baby humans are mammals. Many nurse. BUT children's picturebooks rarely happen to depict incidental, matter-of-fact, natural breastfeeding ar all, so yea!, here's a decent one that does.)

"Parrot likes sweet oranges." Lift the flap--"Me too!" -a very simple illustration of a contented toddler, two orange segments in hands, juice drops flying.

"Penguins likes fresh fish." Lift the flap-"Me too!"-Asian toddler forking small fish. This one will give kids pause. These cute little fish are whole with lively, expressive eyes.

and finally,

"Bat likes squashy banana.'" --Me too!" -another messy one, not banana slices, or whole with a peel, or mashed with a spoon- this bibbed baby happily scatters hand-squeezed blobs of banana, reaching the mouth with some.

Pleasant, cartoony art, nice color and composition, cute with a friendly feeling.

Sweet & simple.
