Item Description...
Is it safe? The journey toward healing, that is-is it a safe journey? Dare I expose myself to God's people again? After all, it was God's people who put me here in the first place. There are supposed to be some safe havens - the church should be one of those places. But that's not necessarily how it is, is it? Books on this subject often identify the plight of wounded Christians, and even some of the causes within the church. But genuine healing for the wounded comes from God's Word. This book does more than just coddle the wounded-it moves them through reconciliation to a point of re-engaging.

Publishers Description
Is it safe? The journey toward healing, that is is it a safe journey? Dare I expose myself to God?'s Word and to God?'s people again? After all, it was God?'s people who put me here in the first place. There are supposed to be some safe havens--some places where, when the storms of life well up around us and begin to beat us down, we can go to rest. There should be a place where we can trust people and confide in them without fear of being hurt. And when we find that place, it should stay safe and secure for us always. The church should be one of those places. We should be able to trust God?'s people. At least that is the way it should be.But that?'s not necessarily how it is, is it? The truth is, those places don t really exist, and you have learned that the hard way. In reality, church is not all that much safer than anywhere else, and God?'s people can be as mean-spirited and hurtful as anyone else; maybe even more so.Books on this subject often do well to identify the plight of wounded Christians, and perhaps even some of the causes within the church. But genuine healing for the wounded Christian comes from God?'s Word. This book does more than just coddle the wounded it moves them through reconciliation, re-commitment and to a point of re-engaging. It also includes personal contributions from co-author Debbie Taylor Williams from her own painful experience of being hurt by the church.Already used with remarkable success in support groups for people hurt by the church, this book brings the reader healing lessons which emanate from Scripture. It is a journey not only to a point of healing but to a point of re-engagement with God?'s people and with ministry.

A heavenly solution to a real-world, universal problem  Mar 22, 2008
Wherever people are gathered, the possibility of hurting each other looms large. Somehow I had hoped that churches would be asylums where human beings uplifted and never hurt each other, by omission or by comission. Because churches are populated by regular human beings, like you and me, people do get hurt and so does God. Wounded people are tempted to withdraw, in pain or fear, from other people, church, and God; finding their way back can be difficult and lonely. This book offers empathy, written by authors who are people themselves, hurt by people in their church. It also offers insights and strategies, couched in the context of God's Word. What a relief! What a blessing!
It Could Be Your Church!  Jan 30, 2008
When I first started reading Blake Coffee and Debbie William's book, I was sure they must have been writing about my church and I am sure every reader will have the same thought...because the problems are so universal whenever people gather together in community there are going to be clashes, feelings hurt, misunderstandings, disappointments...we've all been there. Everyone who has ever been a member of a church will relate to this book. Blake and Debbie take a refreshing look at biblically resolving issues and provide a case study for the reader to see it put to action. They marry the theory with the application! A must read because sooner or later you are going to need it.
Hope and healing after the hurt   Dec 2, 2007
Trusting God's People...Again provides wisdom, biblical guidance, and a wealth of information to help those of us who have been wounded by the church heal, forgive, and mature. The words of Blake Coffee and Debbie Taylor Williams are fresh and encouraging, yet bold and honest. A great resource for church libraries, small groups, and individuals, filled with reminders about why God created us and our mission on earth.
If you've been wounded by God's people  Nov 26, 2007
I was unprepared for the array of emotions that would well up from deep within as I read this book. As I recount in my own book, Direction: Discernment for the Decisions of Your Life, I've also been wounded by God's people. Trusting God's People Again will be a resource I recommend in my retreats and day seminars for this book also addresses difficult questions about God's will, His forgiveness, our own journey through forgiveness, and the hope of wholeness we cling to. Blake Coffee and Debbie Taylor Williams have written a much needed book, on an often pushed-under-the-carpet subject with truth, honesty, and vulnerability.
