Item Description...
As a generation of baby boomers nears retirement, our country is facing a dilemma. By 2010, there may be a shortage of 4 to 6 million workers, causing a dearth of effective leaders. Nearly every recent crisis-corporate bankruptcies, political scandals, moral failures in the church-can be traced to a leadership deficit. The common denominator? Broken trust. Author Les T. Csorba sees trust as the most indispensable force between leaders and followers. Here he offers observations gleaned from two decades of experience in government, business, church, and family. Part meditation, part how-to manual, Trust examines characteristics of trusted leadership, including The 7 Principles of the Trust. Finally, the book features interactive elements such asThe LeaderCheck: a guide to evaluating whether you are developing the trust necessary to motivate and richly lead followers. Reviews - What do our customers think?
Right wing and religious  Feb 2, 2006
Good for the right wing, religious individual or (for those of us who are neither) those looking to expand your horizon. Must have a VERY open mind to read this book if you are not spiritual or are more liberal.

Well written, interesting arguments, just not for me.
Right Philosophy, Questionable Examples  Dec 17, 2005
The premise put forth in the title is supported by some keen insights into "leadership by Calling" and comparisons to it with "modern leadership theory." Les Csorba writes about the danger of pursuing results without compassion; a point with which I agree. Unfortunately, some of the examples he chooses are questionable...

After warning about the danger of weak character in powerful leaders, Csorba chastises German Chancellor Schroeder for turning back on some promises to George W Bush regarding the war on terrorism and then goes on to deride him for his four wives. Meanwhile he praises Jack Welch for going from Neutron Jack to a gentler Jack (which Jack says he would abandon if needed)while still making the "tough" decisions that got the "results" for the shareholders. Jack can change is mind and go back to compassionless results... OK. Also, there is no mention that Jack was getting results with his personal secretary whilst the wife was at home...

Unfortunately the theme in Csorba's examples becomes one of bashing the mistakes of Democrats and forgiving the sins of the Republicans. He does sprinkle in some condemnation for a few wrong-minded Republicans in a meek attempt at balance. It's a shame that he turned this into a politcally tainted work. It started off so well.

It started off well even though it will turn off readers who are not people of faith as faith is central precept to this book. It also started off well even though he chose to make George W Bush the role model for how to be a trust-able leader. Unfortunately this conservative/political bent turned an even harder right from there and kept going. It kept going to the point that I could no longer plan on sharing this book with some folks I know who really need it. They would simply say its a Bush-ie/right-winger book and dismiss the valuable and otherwise soundly argued premise. Too bad. Csorba almost had a classic instead of a politically tainted leadership manual.

I say this even though I am Republican, am one of the few folks who would admit they were voting for Bush BEFORE the election, am a person of faith, and tend to find the Dems an easy target. But this book was supposed to be about so much more than Republican politics. Too bad.
"Trust" - Relevant and Informative  Sep 17, 2004
Les Csorba's book, "Trust: The One Thing that Makes or Breaks a Leader," provides instructive guidance in analyzing the business, political and civic challenges that leaders face today and in the future.

Many of the illustrations in the book come directly from Csorba's own experiences or through interviews with well-known leaders. With the backdrop of the Enron trials and an upcoming Presidential election, the issue of trust becomes highly relevant.

Csorba uses insights that he has gained in the business world, and in working at the White House, to analyze what leaders need to be successful. He combines historical stories with his real-life experiences to weave together a comprehensive explanation on why trust can make or break a leader.

One aspect that is not often seen in current business books is including the spiritual perspective. The Saturday or Sunday spiritual lessons are many times forgotten or ignored by Monday morning. When addressing a character/moral issue like "trust," one cannot forget the spiritual guidance and Biblical lessons that are the bases for character/moral issues.

I highly recommend "Trust: The One Thing that Makes or Breaks a Leader" as a relevant and informative source for analyzing the current state of our leaders. Hopefully, our future leaders are taking note of these insights as well.
Trust blasts Pragmatism  Sep 15, 2004
If you have been wondering why you're so frustrated watching the News, you need to read this book.

Les Csorba has identified a major defect in our culture. Our motivation is all screwed up. We need to do what we do because it is the right thing to do - not just to get the results that we want.

This book calls a spade a spade and gives helpful solutions to a broken and bleeding culture. It calls us all to be leaders.

Very worthwhile reading.
Trust: The One Thing That Makes or Breaks a Leader  Aug 26, 2004
Mr. Csorba is right on target with this book. The book is full of hard hitting information that will have a great effect on the way we conduct our businesses and lives. The book gives us a renewed respect and awareness of what really matters in a person. A great read.
