The Trinity is the first of the mysteries of faith. Tragically, however, it is also the mystery that speaks least to many believers. This is the issue addressed in this volume. The address is on two fronts. First, the text proposes a recovery of the true form of the faith of the Apostles here understanding or theology is central. Secondly, the text proposes a way of living by that recovered sense of the Trinity, a method in fact of translating the revealed mystery into everyday living. The light that comes from the Trinity illumines what is below. In fact, what comes down from heaven must also grow up from the earth! The revelation of the triune life of God suggests that we seek to understand the true meaning of reality. Gods triune fingerprint may be read upon the work of his hands. With the discovery of love as central, and relation as key, we can now propose an understanding of reality or being as Trinitarian a Trinitarian ontology comes into view.
The Trinity is the first of the mysteries of faith. Tragically, however, it is also the mystery that speaks least to many believers. This is the issue addressed in this volume. Hans Urs von Balthasar once observed that the greatest tragedy in the history of theology was the separation of theology from spirituality. Thomas Norris has in this work helped to heal that fatal separation. Here one finds a theology and spirituality of communion. Professor Norris shows how the Christian spiritual way of communion is well represented today especially by the remarkable Chiara Lubich, the founder of the Focolare Movement, one of the great Catholic movements of spiritual reform today. The anti-individualist spirituality of communion is, as this work shows, central to Christianity and indeed to being an authentic human being as such. Communion unites persons one to the other in a cause greater than themselves. It is difficult to conceive how any considerate person will not be aided by this theologically thoughtful and spiritually moving book. From the Foreword by David C. Tracy Professor Emeritus University of Chicago Divinity School
