Item Description...
What is a Christian? If you take away our t-shirts, bumper stickers, and little plastic fish, we look just like everyone else. Our divorce rate is way up there. Drugs, pornography, violence, giving in to temptation, impatience, lying, sexual promiscuity, adultery, the list goes on, and it looks just like the world. Today's church sells a cheap brand of salvation. If this is the real deal, why is there no repentance, no restoration, and no power? We cannot continue to play church. We must seek the Lord till He is found. We must pray till there is an answer. We must break through, and be the people of God that He has called us to be. A little leaven still leavens the whole lump, and a little compromise still destroys the whole church. The Bible has a great deal more to say about salvation than we have been taught. Your life depends upon you getting it right. What is the Gospel? How do I share my faith? What is Covenant? What is salvation? Is there really an enemy? Where will I find him? Do I have to sin? Can I really overcome? Using much scripture, this little book answers all these questions and more. The modern church is like a tree that has stepped away from it's root. The fruit is dying on the vine.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Awful!  Feb 27, 2006
The positive reviews on here must be from people who know the author, because this book is so bad that I'm tossing my copy in the trash. It's not worth donating to a library - I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone else reading this.

Why is it that you can count on the grammar in any self-published book to be terrible? The misplaced commas drive me crazy. The misuse of "their", "there" and "they're" is so common it's not worth worrying about. But "it's" and "its" are used improperly, for which there is no excuse. Worse still, who wants to be "lead by the Spirit"?

Okay, so there are some technical problems with the book. Maybe the content is still worthwhile, right? Well, with such attention to detail as he put into his English, he put less into his theology and logic. Quite simply, his points are derived from his own mind, and his logic wouldn't get him past the first grade.

For instance, in one chapter he uses the story of the Israelites as an analogy for our walk, saying we have to go through a wilderness before we reach the promised land. "Egypt", we are told, is our old sinful life. The "Promised Land" is a relationship with God. All fine and good until, a few pages later, he tells us we shouldn't be desiring the promised land at all, forgetting that he's the one making the analogy.

In a chapter on church government, he says that pastors should be in charge and that democracy is bad in the church. Okay, that's his opinion and he's entitled to it. He doesn't address the problem of giving human leaders power without accountability. However, he then goes on to indicate just how such a power structure could be abused when he indicates that one influential member could run the church by intimidating the elders and pastor.

He misapplies and misinterprets Scripture. For instance, when Jesus said, "I am the Way," LP says that Christ was saying that he was the example and we were to do what he does. Maybe so, but then why wouldn't Jesus say, "I am showing you the way" instead? LP insists that we have the same power to defeat the devil as Jesus did - but we have no power in and of ourselves. The only power we have is God's.

LP takes potshots at certain things and acts as though no further explanation is necessary. I suppose, once you've been given absolute authority in your church, it's easy to get sloppy and think that just because you say so, everyone will agree. It's just not very convincing as an argument. Maybe TV is garbage, but Neil Postman took an entire book to make the argument that TV is entertainment and LP doesn't explain why all entertainment is bad. The Internet, music, sports and the news all get similar treatment. We're left to guess why these things are bad in and of themselves.

With such misuse of Scripture, failure to make a cogent argument, and no logic at all, I can't recommend this book to anyone.
The truth revealed.  Jan 12, 2006
FINALLY! The truth is revealed about God's word! This book is amazing and a great read. Anyone who considers themself a Christian needs to read this book. It will help you discover what God's word really says about how we are to live as Christians. (It's not just about saying a prayer.) This book will challenge you, it will make you feel maybe a bit uncomfortable...but that's what it's suppose to do! I want a copy for every Christian I know. This book gives us a great lesson on discipleship.
This Church Is Not Appearing Glorious...  Apr 4, 2005
This book offers a lot of good information, but it has so many typographical errors that it's difficult to concentrate on the message. The author writes well; why didn't anyone proofread the manuscript before printing it? There are literally hundreds of typos - overused and misplaced commas, incorrect punctuation, misplaced and missing hyphens, uneven capitalizations; the list goes on. I appreciate the book for its wisdom and intent, but the presentation is so bad it doesn't live up to its potential; thus the low rating. My copy is not marked "uncorrected proof," but it should have been. I highly recommend a reprint - with the help of a good proofreader. The book deserves better.
New light on the word of God  Jul 5, 2004
I just finished this book. It made me think about the diference between what I've been taught, and what the bible really says. I cant believe the diference. I really didn't know what the bible said about salvation, or the gospel or covenant or really anything. All I can say is life changing.
Healing for today's church  Jul 2, 2004
This book challenged me to get real; to take my Christianity to a new level. I've been at this for twenty years, and I was blind, but now I see. This isn't just another book. I believe it is a message for our generation. It's like God used this book to clear up all the misconceptions about His will. I've bought it for all my friends, and I'm recomending it to strangers. Read it. It will change your life, and your world.
