Another one of those religious books...  Dec 22, 2006
When I started reading this book I loved it, the first 100pages or so are really funny, in a Bridget Jones kind of way, I was even willing to look beyond the annoying bible verses and letters to God.
I am not a Christian, and being unfamiliar with this faith I just don't get the message there.

Once the main Character's friend Kim gets diagnosed with cancer and eventually gets depressed it is just plain boring. It feels like having to listen to one of those people who go on and on about their lives but you just don't care.

Also the bible verses and weird letters to God are getting more and more annoying - hey, I did not sign up for a religious education here -ok. And, after Whitney gets a cat called Mr. Tibble, several passages are written from the view of the cat - I am also not 6 years old, please, from the view of the cat?

All in all it's a diary of a Christian woman's failed attempts in finding a boyfriend, and in the end she starts seeing Chase, which is mentioned in the most boring way you can imagine: page 412: " May3: Movie with chase, May4: dinner with chase, May8: walk around Lake Harriet with Chase, May10: walk, dinner and movie with Chase". That's it end of book!
Don't have Christians any feelings, emotions and romantic thoughts?

I wish it would have been mentioned clearer on the cover that this is a religious book about the Christian faith and I would have never bought it in the first place.
Laugh Out Loud  Dec 16, 2006
This is a sort of Christian girl's alternative to Bridget Jone's Diary and I can honestly say I was enthralled from beginning to end.

Until I started reading chick lit I was never a fan of first person POV but it really works with these sorts of books. Part of me is a bit stunned that I am of the age where I am identifying with these women but another part of me rejoiced and cried with them. I really enjoyed the way each woman's faith played a part in her search for love. And I loved the way Whitney found love in the end.

This book is one that I highy recommend. It's a great summer or beach read.
Average read/rushed ending  Dec 8, 2006
Overall the book was good, but I have to agree with several reviewers:
there's nothing that turns me off from a book like jumpsuits, the lack of believable situations, and when this book finally reaches it's climax, the writer saps away the finale by summing it up in one page. It took me two days to get to the good part and you're going to end it in a rush like that?! What a waste!
funny and extremely enjoyable  Oct 6, 2006
It's Whitney Blake's birthday and she's just turned the big three-oh. In celebration she starts a journal detailing all the ways she is improving mentally, physically and spiritually. She hasn't had all that much luck at being perfect in the past, but one must try. Her entries include weight loss, being a perfect employee, finding a fabulous, single Christian man. That last one might be a tad difficult, giving her former experiences.

Something seems to be working, because suddenly Whitney has more men than she knows what to do with. Eric, her long time friend, decides he's in the mood for romance. Matt Lambert is handsome, charming, and really knows how to treat a girl. And then there's Dr. Chase Andrews, the man with the compassionate manner and the beautiful sapphire eyes. But problems keep cropping up to mar Whitney's new perfect life. her mother is battling menopause, her best friend has cancer, and apparently all of the men in her life are afraid of a long-term committment, like marriage.

The Whitney Chronicles is a fun, witty story that will keep you guessing right up to the end. Whitney is a funny, sassy heroine who may not have a clue what's going on most of the time, but you'll back her all the way.
I really enjoyed this book!  Feb 16, 2006
I'm an aspiring Christian romance writer, and I'd always heard how hard it is to successfully write in the first person, as if you were telling the story all the time, because you're only getting one person's point of view. It limits what the reader knows. Because this book is written in first person (the main character is writing in her journal) and was successfully published, I wanted to read it and see why it worked.

It worked because this book is "laugh out loud" hilarious both in the main character's personal thoughts and in the real-life wackiness of her co-workers. I could relate! There are serious, poignant moments, too, and I loved seeing the main character choosing to live her life with spiritual integrity, keeping her focus where it belongs (on her relationship with her Lord) even while she desires a relationship with Mr. Right. I've been recommending this book to everyone! Great read!
