Item Description...
Through exclusive photos and personal stories, former US manager of Apple Records and Grammy Award winning producer Ken Mansfield offers a compelling memoir that delves into his life in the 1960s and '70s and his unique partnership with the Beatles and other musicians who orbited their world. As observer, friend, and colleague, Mansfield sat in their recording sessions, partied in their swimming pools, took their irate calls, covered up their blunders, and publicized their successes. Entertaining, historically accurate, and illuminating a side of the Fab Four known only to a few like Mansfield, The White Book shines fresh light on the true characters behind the cultural phenomena that revolutionized a generation. As the former president of Apple Records, Jack Oliver, has said of Ken, "He is one of the few insiders left that bore witness to the highs and lows of those insane days when we ruled the world."

KEN MANSFIELD's legendary career in the music industry began as a member of the Town Criers, a successful southern California folk group in the early 1960s. From there he moved to executive tenures as US manager of The Beatles' Apple Records and, director at Capitol Records, vice president at MGM Records, and president at Barnaby/CBS Records. As a record producer, he was instrumental in launching country music's "Outlaw" movement in the 1970s, producing Waylon Jennings' number-one 1975 landmark recording, Are You Ready for the Country, and Jessi Colter's number-one hit "I'm Not Lisa." Ken also produced the Gaither Vocal Band's 1991 GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning Homecoming album, which also launched another historical movement, the resurgence of Southern gospel music via the Gaither Homecoming series of recordings, videos, and concerts. Ken is now an ordained minister, a sought-after speaker, and the author of four other books: The Beatles, The Bible and Bodega Bay; The White Book; Between Wyomings; and Stumbling on Open Ground. He and his wife Connie currently reside in Florida.
MARSHALL TERRILL is a veteran film, sports, and music writer and the author of nearly twenty books, including best-selling biographies of Steve McQueen, Elvis Presley, and Pete Maravich. Three of his books are in development to be made into movies. Terrill resides in Tempe, Arizona, with his wife, Zoe.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
He Should Have Known Better  Nov 14, 2008
Mansfield, unlike many others who have written books about their times with the Beatles, was sufficiently immersed in the Beatles' lives to deserve to put his name on one. One can appreciate his decision to write about his experiences with rose-colored glasses, but a more objective book would have been more interesting, and more realistic. Not that he needed to trash anyone, because the boys in the band truly seemed to be good guys, but he totally ignores the bitterness of the breakup and the other less joyful moments in the group's career. Surely he saw some of the downside from within.
He also flits around memories too haphazardly, often making it difficult to follow his story. A chronological approach would have been better. All in all the book could have been better written and edited, but hardcore fans of the Beatles will find enough to hold their interest.
A 'Must Read' for Beatle researchers  Apr 18, 2008
When one considers that Ken Mansfield was on the roof of the Apple Headquarters for the Beatles last, greatest concert, in the white raincoat, sitting next to Yoko, that puts him in an extremely elite group; one who had gained the respect & trust of the Beatles to be allowed to be on the inside. I am always searching for books on the Fab Four that are different, and not a repeat of the same historical aspects. I am really sorry that Neil Aspinall did not write one, because he saw it all, but Mansfield saw a great deal, as a "front row" witness and in my opinion this type of book is precisely what collectors and researchers will want to read. I highly recommend " The White Book."
he was there!  Apr 9, 2008
Many books about the Beatles have been written over the years, but how many of the authors were really there when it happened? The writer of "The White Book" was there in the 1960s when the Beatles and their music ruled the world. It looks like Mansfield valued the relationships he made - he tells great behind-the-scenes stories. Not just about the Beatles together and in their solo years, but the Beach Boys, James Taylor, Andy Williams (it seems Andy was quite the partier), Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Badfinger, Harry Nilsson, etc. He also has an insider's view of the formation of the Beatles' Apple Records. Stories of his early years as a music industry executive also serve to illustrate the differences between the naive but creative world of the music business in the early and mid 60s and the cold, hard, bottom line reality that exists today.
I Love This Book!!!  Mar 31, 2008
I couldn't wait to get hold of Ken's latest offering about his experiences with the Fabs (and others). "Bodega Bay", Ken's first book concerning spirituality as well as The Beatles, was very good. But this one is so much better, in my opinion. Ken has a wonderful writing style and he doesn't inflate himself up to be greater than what he is writing about....see Peter Brown's "The Love You Make" for that honor.

I emailed Ken after reading "Bodega Bay" and though I'm only halfway through "The White Book", know that I will be sending my congratulations his way once I finish this one! Rock on, Ken!!
Uh... it's a pleasant read.  Mar 24, 2008
I've pretty much read them all, and as far as books about the Beatles go, this one misses the mark.
Ken Mansfield seems like a very nice man, and that's really the problem. He seems overly wary of offending anyone, so there are no intimate details to put you in the moment.
The Customer reviews here on this site compelled me to buy the book, but the Publishers Weekly review on the first page is the one I should of heeded.
