Reviews - What do our customers think?
Get over it, Ladies  Apr 15, 2008
I am preparing to do the spiritual exercises this summer and was interested in getting as much additional background as possible. As a woman, I was naturally drawn to reading a book from a female perspective. However, this book was way too didactic for me. The authors have an agenda which I do not share any longer, and in retrospect, think I wasted too much precious time 30 years ago agonizing over it. This book is too focused on the individual, personal, ego needs of the imagined reader. Not really aimed at someone seeking true enlightenment.

I am no longer a rebellious teen-ager. I believe that men and women are completely equal before God and that He (yes, He) loves us equally as well. I do not feel that I am a victim because I am female, nor do I feel angry with St. Ignatius for living in the times he did.

I am not offended by general vernacular because I know what it means. The goal of the exercises is to understand one's relationship with God. Perhap this book may be helpful to some women. But I have to think that anyone who is really still riled up about the politics of the Church or Society, or still angry with men in general is not going to be really ready for a retreat of this dimension.
