More About Francine Rivers

Francine Rivers Francine Rivers began her literary career at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Journalism. From 1976 to 1985, she had a successful writing career in the general market and her books were awarded or nominated for numerous awards and prizes. Although raised in a religious home, Francine did not truly encounter Christ until later in life, when she was already a wife, mother of three, and an established romance novelist. Shortly after becoming a born-again Christian in 1986, Francine wrote Redeeming Love as her statement of faith. First published by Bantam Books, and then re-released by Multnomah Publishers in the mid- 1990s, this retelling of the biblical story of Gomer and Hosea set during the time of the California Gold Rush is now considered a classic work of Christian fiction and continues to be one of the Christian Booksellers Association’s top-selling titles; it has held a spot on the Christian bestseller list for nearly a decade.

Since Redeeming Love, Francine has published more than 20 novels with Christian themes - all bestsellers- and she has continued to win both industry acclaim and reader loyalty around the globe. Her Christian novels have been awarded or nominated for numerous awards including the RITA Award, the Christy Award, the ECPA Gold Medallion, and the Holt Medallion in Honor of Outstanding Literary Talent. In 1997, after winning her third RITA award for Inspirational Fiction, Francine was inducted into the Romance Writers’ of America Hall of Fame. In 2007, the feature-length film version of her novel The Last Sin Eater was released in theaters by Fox Faith. In March 2010, Francine officially became a New York Times bestselling author, when Her Mother’s Hope debuted at #12 on the hardcover fiction bestsellers lists. The sequel, Her Daughter’s Dream, debuted at #12 on the same list just 6 months later, in September, 2010. Francine’s novels have been translated into over twenty different languages and she enjoys best-seller status in many foreign countries including Germany, The Netherlands, and South Africa.

Francine and her husband Rick live in Northern California and enjoy the time spent with their three grown children and every opportunity to spoil their five grandchildren. She uses her writing to draw closer to the Lord, and that through her work she might worship and praise Jesus for all He has done and is doing in her life.

Francine Rivers currently resides in the state of California. Francine Rivers was born in 1947.

Francine Rivers has published or released items in the following series...

Amazing book.   Jan 11, 2007
My Purchase got to me on time and in great shape! I was very happy with it and I would recomend this book for a great Christmas present.
Relaxing reading with big impact  May 14, 2005
The Shoe Box is a pleasant and easy read, taking me less than an hour to finish but making a big impact. It is one of the more versatile books in my collection and has become one of my favorites.

The story begins as Timmy, a dear six year old comes to live in a foster home, bringing with him a mysterious box. My heart was warmed as his foster family showed him everyday Christian love and Timmy showed them the true meaning of Christmas.

At the end of the book, after Timmy's story, you will find the biblical account or the Christmas story, from Matthew and Luke, presented in the easy to understand New Living Translation.

In addition to these two beautiful stories there are more treasures. dispersed throughout the book are insights into the author's family traditions and some wonderful recipes.

This is a lovely book that will continue to reside on my bookshelf and serve as a Christmas tradition in my home. This year it will be a special gift item for family and friends.

I recommend The Shoe Box as it is just as valuable for relaxing reading on any quiet afternoon, as it is for family reading on Christmas Eve.
Moving  Mar 16, 2004
It's short, and for that price maybe a bit expencive too... but it's great! When I read it it was like... "this is not that moving at all" - but the end explained all :) really cute.

My mom thought that this is a perfect book to give as a gift.

Great for reading aloud by the Christmas Tree  Dec 7, 2001
This is a nice little book that takes 10-15 minutes to read aloud. The story itself is about a little boy named Timmy whose mother cannot take care of him, and God does take care of him. It may bring a little tear to your eye when you read it.

I don't find the book particularly well written, but it is one of the favorite books of my 4-year-old. He would love for me to read it to him every night.

This book also contains the story of the birth of Christ from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke plus a few shorter stories and Christmas recipes.

If you are looking for a book to get your family in the Christmas spirit, this is a good one.

I was warned, but still a little disappointed!  May 13, 2001
Rivers is one of my 3 favorite authors, but this one was so very, very brief! My children are too young to appreciate it as family reading and it was just too short and simple for me. Rivers generally arouses deep feelings in me for her characters, but here I was virtually unmoved. I read the warnings here in the reviews and I should have listened!
