Item Description...
"After a long and exhaustive search, the pulpit committee of the Crown of Thorns Baptist Church has found a dynamic new preacher. Owen Tisdale is experienced, savvy, and knows how to pack the pews. There's just one problem: The once-peaceful congregation has begun to unravel. At first, it's just little things ... new members with new opinions, an ambitious public-relations campaign, and old members with nightmares. But as the incidents of mayhem mount, a frightening question must be asked: Just who is this man? It will take a humble church deacon and a young mother with bleak and terrifying visions to find the answer...."--p. [4] of cover.

Garbage  Jul 16, 2009
This book is a bunch of garbage!! I will never buy another one of his books!!
You can read this kind of junk in secular books from much better authors. It certainly is not "Christian Fiction".
Don't waste your money on this!!
SUSPENSE GALORE!  Apr 24, 2009
Owen Tisdale hooked me right away, I knew he was up to something no good but little did I know!!! I was turning the pages as fast as I could to see what would happen next! It is a very well written and descriptive story, with lots of surprises. The author has done his research and is well acquainted with the subject matters. I am looking forward to his next novel! I love my church family and I certainly hope no one like Owen ever shows up there, and if he does, I will claim God's promise, "Greater is He who is in me than He who is in the world."
Christian Gothic  Apr 19, 2009
For anyone who was a member of a church, mosque, or synagogue when the bad guys took over, Darren Dillman's "The Preacher" may bring back some painful memories.

That's because Dillman illustrates St. Augustine's concept of the City of God and the City of Man: The one is the community of believers, not necessarily coextensive with the church (synagogue, mosque); the other is the world of greed, avarice, and lust, not necessarily coextensive with secular society.

Often, believers assume their place of worship is impervious to infiltrations from the City of Man, an attitude that leaves them vulnerable when the likes of Owen Tisdale, the evil preacher of the title, turns up at Dallas' Crown of Thorns Baptist Church.

The name, "Crown of Thorns," is one of just many gothic elements of Dillman's novel. One doesn't associate "gothic" with Christian novels, or with Texas -- a region not noted for haunted castles. But "The Preacher" demonstrates that a shady clergyman or a seedy honky-tonk have just as much gothic potential as a midnight graveyard.

So, the bad guys take over the church. What do you do? How do you fight an enemy who views your charity and good will as weaknesses, and uses them accordingly?

Dillman's novel may have some answers. In fact, every house of worship should have a copy of The Preacher in a glass case, with the instructions: BREAK IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.
Great story! I hope to see more from this author soon.  Mar 23, 2009
I really enjoyed reading this novel. Normally, I read historical fiction, but the front cover of this book caught my attention and I just couldn't put it down. I read this book in just two days. It is an interesting story with great characters. I especially liked how the author showed the dealings and politics inside church business. The story was different from anything I have read before, and I am hoping there's another book out soon. Once I find an author I like I'm hooked.
Once you start reading, you won't be able to stop!!!!!!!  Mar 9, 2009
First off, beatrixlynn--or whatever the coward's real name is--is a disgruntled bipolar wetback who obviously didn't finish her GED or the book, either one.

I saw this book at a Christian bookstore and took a chance on it thinking the cover might look better than the actual story inside. I started reading the book at 10 p.m. knowing I had to get up and go to work at 5 a.m., but I kept turning the pages, I couldn't put this one down. I finished at 3 a.m. and had only two hours to sleep, but I didn't care. This book left me feeling high as a kite. When I was done, I just said to myself, Wow! IT'S THAT GOOD!!! ONCE YOU START READING, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO STOP! I don't know of anyone in the Christian genre who either writes this well or keeps such a thrilling pace. I've tried reading Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti but never seem to make it past twenty pages. This writer is one to watch. The characters are the best part. They're beautifully drawn and resemble real people who live next door to you or who stand in line next to you at the bank. I LOVE Waymon Taylor's character and find the preacher remarkable. The other reviewer is right--this should be made into a movie. All the elements of both fiction and cinema are working in this thing. Come on, Hollywood! I want to see this thing on the big screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
