A new installment in the popular satirical series cites the historical influences of the nation's founding fathers while identifying the contributions of conservatives, in a lighthearted volume that celebrates the virtues of traditional southern values. Original.

Publishers Description
What the PC Police don't want you to know--and what they got plain wrong--about the South
From the Founding Fathers to the frontiersmen who tamed the West to the country music, NASCAR, Biblethumping heart of "Red State" America, the South is the quintessence of what's original, unique, and most loved about American culture. And with its emphasis on traditional values, family, faith, military service, good manners, small government, and independent-minded people, the South is just plain more livable than the North--which is one reason why millions of Yankees, white and black, have been moving down South in droves.
The Politically Incorrect Guide(tm) to the South gives you the facts behind scores of revelations like these:
- How Southerners led the way in drafting the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights
- How the Northern victory led to today's all-powerful federal government
- Why race relations in today's South are much better than in the North--or anywhere else in America
- Why the South is naturally conservative (and the North is naturally liberal)
- How American jazz, blues, and rock and roll all came from the South
- Why Southerners are overrepresented in the military--and no, it's not poverty
- The best American literature? Southern, of course
"The South is all about memory, heritage, and pride of place," writes Clint Johnson. "I refuse to go along with the expunging of that memory, heritage, and pride, and I hope the readers of this book, Northern and Southern, will rise up and join me in protesting those who are trying to do it."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Good Book  Oct 7, 2008
I ordered this for my BF as a gift. He really liked it. Some of the facts were maybe a little off, but the basic gist of the book is good. It makes you proud to be a Southerner and shows the importance of preserving our culture when outside sources are moving in and changing it.
waste of time  Jun 23, 2008
don't bother reading this book , the book is full of generalizations that have no statistical proof to back them up.
Not as good as some PIG books  May 14, 2008
I haven't finished this book yet, because it hasn't grabbed me as quickly as some other PIG books have. There are some interesting facts about the South, but it is mostly a rah-rah book for the South
Lots of Emotion and Insult  Mar 10, 2008
"...Guide to the South" is packed with pro-South bragging interspersed with anti-North insults. Everyone not "Southern" is lumped in with the "Northerners" and insulted broadly, at every turn. Too often, the bragging made it impossible for me to distinguish between the author's opinions and facts about the South. For example, the author claims that Southerners are less racially prejudiced than Northerners with regards to African American / Caucasian interactions, but no current day evidence is presented, just historical annecdotes. This claim could be true, but I couldn't tell from reading "...Guide to the South". Having read and enjoyed other Politically Incorrect Guides, I was extremely disapointed.
Get over it!  Feb 2, 2008
Open memo to author: I purchased the book because I'll soon be visiting Charleston NC and Savannah GA, and acknowledged I know only a bit of southern history from the southern perspective. Your book appeared to fill that void, and indeed, I found it for the most part informative and occasionally amusing. However, I also found the book offensive in that the chip on your shoulder is so immense as to block out a good deal of illumination. A pity the myths and misinformation put forth. Maybe if you hadn't tried for the sarcastic tone, the reader would have been more inclined toward empathy. Also unfortunate is the nondisclosure of your credentials. This oversight leaves the reader with more work to be done because one is unable to take your assertions as veritus, without double-checking other sources. At least, thanks for the bibliography (though, regrettably not one footnote)-- it's fairly comprehensive. What with the tone you "copted" throughout, I would have expected Limbaugh and Coulter as your source material.
