Reviews - What do our customers think?
Savage states it like it is.  Oct 24, 2008
With the actual potential of the "Fairness Doctorine" being thrown at radio talk show host like Mr. Savage this is a last hope for him to get his TRUE messege out to those who are blind to what's happening here in the US. If your show is pulled Mike just keep writen and I'll keep read'n. Excellent book.
Hilarious  Mar 1, 2008
Dr. Wiener takes a hilarious view of politics. The caricatures are funny and straight to the point. This is a no holds barred expose' of politicians hypocrisy. I couldn't put the book down it was non stop fun reading.
Political Zoo  Feb 13, 2008
The Preemminent Truth Teller of our Time. A must have for any American concerned with what ails our Nation and what can be done to save it. Borders Language and Culture are his Hallmark for saving our Nation from all enemies within and without. The scales will fall from you eyes, you will wake up to the real dangers by a Govt Media and Politicos out of control. Educate yourself to the folly of the p/c suicide the Media conglomerates would have you believe! God Bless America and God Bless Michael Savage and the Savage Nation.Only for top notch readers, over the head of the above average Liberal.
haha  Jan 27, 2008
Michael Savage - born in Brooklyn as a humble M. Wiener, obtained his PhD at UC Berkeley in, listen to this, "nutritional ethnomedicine." In other words, young Michael (like most of his fellow neocons) used to be an idealistic liberal studying a New Age program in a left-wing West Coast soviet. Now what has happened in Weiner's life to effect such a radical transformation into a mouthpiece of right-wing weirdness?

The most logical explanation is that New Age does not pay these days. The only place where Michael was able to get a job was the local right-wing radio station (yes, there actually is one in SF). This is where Political Zoo began. And once Wiener found his niche, he realized attacking his fellow human beings brings him much more pleasure than gorging up on taro, lovo and kokoda. Not to mention the money and notoriety that he gets from his right wing sponsors. What are pesky principles, dignity and respect anyway!

The most striking observation about this book is its bare-bone misanthropy: Wiener appears to dislike most every human he encounters, excepting the GWB "Bumblebee" and Cheney the "Mt. Goat", the arguably worst presidential pair in recent history. His dislike includes his fellow competitors on the radio. Here is what he has to say about Rush (the "Hush Bimbo"):

"Limbaugh has often been trumpeted as an amphibian of towering intellect, and that is true, at least in comparison to Hannity and O'Reilly. But that is a mighty small intellectual pond to be a big frog in. This bullfrog also champions family values. He just hasn't gotten around to practicing them. He's had more wives than original thoughts and no children, at least that anyone knows about. Even more entertaining than frog's mating habits is the ongoing story of his admitted drug abuse. Rush, for years, flatly condemned drug abusers. Once he got busted, though, he croaked a different tune. If this had been James Carville, Rush would have him boiled. Instead he was getting boiled himself, and in his own hot water. Rush puts the hypo into hypocrisy. "

Now this rare glimpse of sobriety (sparked by professional envy) is undercut by Wiener's attacks on his fellow Americans that sometimes appear to verge on the border of madness. In the spectrum of right-wing attack squads that range from the ivory tower of (endangered and possibly extinct) East Coast WASPs such as Bill Buckley, via the personal greed, immorality and opportunism of neocons (such as Perle, Kristol and Podhoretz) to the trailer park (inhabited by the likes of Coulter and O'Reilly), Wiener, the aspiring ethnobotanist-turned savage, inhabits a category of his own.

Personally, i find the transformation from an aspiring New Age gourmand and Fijian afficionado into a right-wing foaming-at-the-mouth radio showman intriguing. Sadly, Wiener is not alone. There are now, out there, many former ethnobotanists scoring big time on the lecture circuit. There may not be such a big difference, after all, between appropriating the knowledge accumulated by indigenous peoples through thousands of years, and selling one's mouth - and soul - to big business.
Sounds Like the Homeless People I Meet  Dec 16, 2007
Even though I find Weiner a waste of time, since I am acquainted with his oeuvre, I thought I would give it a shot. Although Weiner is nuts and partisan to the point of shouting rather than "arguing," there actually were a few points I agreed with. Here are few of his political observations (in his case like the nuts on the street).

His is way off base with Pat Robertson. He wrongly states, on page 288, that Robertson "served in Korea during the Korean War as a US Marine. Every Marine on his ship going to Korea remembers vividly how he was able to get off the ship in Japan and get a rear echelon assignment. It was hard to miss as he bragged to everyone how his senator-father fixed it.

With John Kerry Weiner forgets that he himself it quite wealthy. On page 191, Weiner states how Kerry "tried to portray himself as Joe Six Pack. Yea, if you mean a six pack of luxury home ... and did we mention the luxury yacht?" Actually, Weiner, you did forget to mention that you have all of the above and try to come off as a regular Joe.

With Dick Cheney, Weiner tries to explain away his own draft dodging. Weiner, on page 78, states "[Cheney] missed the Vietnam War only to oversee the 1991 Gulf War, proving that sometimes experience is not the best teacher at all." I suppose Cheney "missed" Vietnam--one way to refer to a deferment--which I am sure is the way Weiner refers to having "missed" Vietnam. Yeah, right.

I can agree with his assessment of Diane Feinstein. This is true about how rich and her husband have become due to her being a senator. He is right also about her anti-gun stances being off base. I must say I don't like Feinstein on a personal level. Although she worked with my father and praised him, as an equal, she had no time for helping with his funeral at Arlington. My father was in the Army when there was a cavalry; indeed, he was in the last cavalry parade. He was enlisted, even as a pilot (as were many), and Feinstein would not help me--not even answer a letter--requesting a waiver so my father could be buried as a cavalryman. Since he was not an officer, there would be no horses. She could have obtained the waiver, but, since my father was dead, he was of no help to her and not worth her time. What a snake. I should have offered a bribe.

Of course, when it comes to Weiner, all Republicans get a pass or make-over, and all Democrats get creamed. The most irritating part about his books is that Weiner tries too hard, way too hard, to be clever. I think he writes these "insigthfull" comments down on napkins or whatever is handy, and then collects them for a "book." If he actually knew how to be non-partisan, honest in his assessments, and presented his evidence like a true political scientist, he might have something to add.
