Item Description...
The wonderful adventures of Christian, the Pilgrim, on the King's highway. How he passed the lions and fought a dragon; escaped from the prison of Giant Despair; visited the Palace Beautiful and the shepherds of the Delectable Mountain, and, crossing the dark river, entered in triumph the Celestial City. One of the three great allegories of the world's literature, the experiences of the Christian life, cast into the form of a story of a man who journeyed from this world to the next, have fresh interest for each generation of readers. Richly adorned by the Rhead brothers with decorative borders and many elaborate full-page illustrations. Suitable for ages 9 and up.

More About Frederick Rhead John Bunyan

John Bunyan John Bunyan (1628 1688) was born in Elstow, England, and his life was spared twice in his early years, something he believed God had done for a special purpose.

John Bunyan was an English Christian writer and preacher who is best known for his allegorical novel The Pilgrim' s Progress, published in 1678. Bunyan' s faith was profoundly influenced by two books owned by his wife: Arthur Dent's Plain Man's Pathway to Heaven and Lewis Bayly's Practice of Piety, and he turned to preaching following the death of his guide and mentor, John Gifford.

In November 1660, when Bunyan arrived to preach in the little town of Lower Samsell, he was informed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Unwilling to denounce his Christian faith and his calling to the ministry, he was imprisoned for twelve years. Among the many writings he published during his imprisonment are The Holy City, Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, and the most famous, The Pilgrim's Progress.

After his release, he continued to write and publish stirring works that have endured through time. Among these classics are The Holy War, Visions of Heaven and Hell, and Journey to Hell: The Life and Death of Mr. Badman.
