Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Excellent resource! Mar 18, 2007 |
| This is an excellent resource on the historical reliability of the New Testament. It provides convincing evidence for the trustworthiness of the New Testament. Highly recommended! | | | | Reliable Mr. Bruce Jan 23, 2007 |
F.F. Bruce helps to strengthen our faith in Christ and the Scriptures. This little book will help the reader understand how the N.T. came together and why we can trust that it is the word of God.
Bruce reveals that the N.T. can stand up under any scrutiny and only be found as historically reliable. He says, "Some writers may toy with the fancy of a 'Christ-myth,' but they do not do so on the ground of historical evidence."
I recommend this book to anyone wanting a basic understanding of the formation and reliability of the New Testament... as well as becoming familiar with first-second century Roman and Jewish historians that affirm people, places, and events in the N.T.
For more of a lengthy and indepth expose concerning the reliability of the Scriptures... I recommend "The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict" by Josh McDowell (1999). You will find a thorough bibliography at the end of McDowell's book that will assist you in further study. | | | | A great place to start! Jun 26, 2006 |
There are many books out there that try to demonstrate the reliability of the New Testement writtings. This is the best one I've read so far.
Bruce writes in a way that is detailed enough to point you towards an informed conclusion, but that does not vear off into too many unnecessary side issues. From the very start he is forthcoming with his own Christian position, but is willing to honestly look at objections that could contradict his own conclusions.
In a day when fact seems to have very little bearing on peoples beliefs, I think that this book is essential reading | | | | Excellent, low-key scholarly comparison of NT with other documents Jun 15, 2006 |
| F.F. Bruce was a renowned Greek scholar and examines the New Testament using the same criteria as one would apply to other books of antiquity. The result is a low-key, irenic and very convincing demonstration that it is quite tenable and logical to regard the New Testament as a fundamentally historical document. This is an excellent apologic text to give to a thoughtful non-Christian. | | | | A CLASSIC ON THE RELIABILITY OF THE NEW TESTAMENT TEXT May 23, 2006 |
With all the hype and hysteria currently surrounding "The DaVinci Code", it's good to hear from a true academic whose life's work has been focused around the New Testament and the documents that were incorporated into the canon we cherish today as inspired.
F.F. Bruce is a highly respected New Testament scholar who wrote this very short text in 1943. It has been updated several times and is in its sixth edition. It remains a classic work and is used in numerous seminaries and bible schools. It succinctly debunks the "issues" that some claim surround the reliability and authenticity of the text. The truths it presents show, without a doubt, that the New Testament text we hold is, "all but identical" to the text that was written by the apostles and first century writers. It is WELL WORTH the read. I cannot recommend it highly enough. | | | Write your own review about The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable?
