Item Description...
Drama and action, abrupt exclamation, severe rebuke, stark contrasts--the Greek New Testament is full of these, but standard English versions don't come across this way. This carefully researched translation pays close attention to the original style and force, sentence structure and verb tense meanings, and succeeds in bringing out the richness and clarity of the Greek. An essential work for scholars and refreshing reading for everyone else. Unlike other versions of the New Testament, this translation uses as many English words as are necessary to bring out the richness, force, and clarity of the Greek Text. Intended as a companion to, or commentary on, the standard translations, Wuest's "expanded translation" follows the Greek word order and especially reflects emphases and contrasts indicated by the original text. The New Testament: An Expanded Translation... Introduces readers with no knowledge of Greek to the original language of the New Testament Captures the style of the original writings Brings out the full meaning of each Greek word Structures sentences according to the Greek word order placing the emphases where the original writers put them Clarifies distinctions between Greek synonyms that are often simply rendered in other translations by the same English word. Arranges the text into paragraphs, helping readers to better grasp the logical units of thought Serves as a valuable companion to, or commentary on other versions of the New Testament Kenneth S. Wuest was professor of New Testament Greek at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois, until his death in 1962. His other works include the four-volume Word Studies in the Greek New Testament, of which th volumne is a part. Features: Single-column, paragraph format Verse number ranges indicated in margin Section headings 10 point text

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Good for Study  Feb 15, 2007
This version of the New Testament is good if you want to get more detail for certain verses. But it is not good to read as you would the King James or NKJ or NIV or NRSV because the wording (order) is too difficult to follow.
So read it as an aid...but that's all.
New Testament-OE by Kenneth S. Wuest  Jan 9, 2007
Just as his other books, this goes deeper into the meat of the Word of God and that is what I'm interesting. He is not wordy, he gets to the point with the Love of God.
A decent translation, but somewhat disappointing  Sep 25, 2006
There's no need to order this if you're also ordering Wuest's "Word Studies in the Greek New Testament" (which I have also reviewed). A copy of this translation is included in the "Word Studies" set.

Wuest's translation is called "expanded" because his goal was to try to capture the full meaning of the Greek text, using as many English words as necessary. Instead of trying to find the one English word that comes closest to the meaning of a particular Greek word, he might use several English words to render a single Greek term. I liked this idea, because most translations don't do a very good job of expressing the subtle shades of meaning of the original Greek. So, I was disappointed that Wuest's translation didn't live up to my expectations. This translation does do a better job of bringing out the nuances of the Greek grammar than most translations do. But, as for the meaning of specific Greek words, Wuest's "expanded" translation doesn't add much more insight than other modern English translations provide. This translation makes a useful addition to my collection of Bibles; but I'm not overly impressed with it.

My chief complaint is that it isn't really a literal translation of the Greek -- it is an INTERPRETATION of the text (though Wuest claims otherwise). It's clear that Wuest's "translation" is strongly influenced by his own beliefs. Contrary to his assertions, Wuest is not simply rendering the objective meaning of the Greek words as they were understood and used in the first century -- he is expressing his own understanding of the text. His interpretation may (or may not) be correct; but I want to interpret the text for myself, based on what it actually says. I don't want the translator to interpret it for me.
My Favorite New Testament Translation  Mar 23, 2006
I absolutely love this extended translation of the Greek New Testament. Wuest's translation brings out the absolute richness of the Greek texts using as many English words to accurately capture the meaning of the original Greek. He follows Greek sentence structure which is not as easy to read, in some cases, as the King James Version, but his translation is much more accurate than the KJV. I also have the Amplified Bible, which I enjoy much, but Wuest's Extended Translation is my favorite for its unbiased accuracy. This is truly a translation and not an interpretation. Anyone who truly wants to gain a deeper understanding of the original intent of the New Testament writers should get this Bible.
I know no other language other than English  Mar 10, 2002
I know no other language other than English, however the New Testament was written in the Greek text. Therefore the question I have; "Has the English translation carried over the complete thoughts, feeling, revelation and wonder of God's word for my understanding? In other words, if Paul, Mark, Luke, and other writers of the New Testament were writing to me, has the language barriers been removed in order that I know that I have accurately understood what each have written?

Kenneth S. Wuest translation has fulfilled my translation desire. Knowing the true feelings, thoughts, and intent of each writer of the New Testament.

For example, the King James renders Hebrews 13:5,6

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Now if the writer of Hebrews was writing to you who spoke only United States English in the year 2000 he would instead write the following in order to transfer the impact of his words.

Hebrews 13:5,6

Let your manner of life be without love of money, being satisfied with your present circumstances. For He himself has said, and the statement is on record, I will not, I will not cease to sustain and uphold you. I will not, I will not, I will not let you down. So that, being of good courage, we are saying, The Lord is my helper, I will not fear. What shall man do to me?

This translation makes an impact! It speaks God's words clearly to me and it may do the same for you as well.
