Item Description...
A Fashion Tour-de-Farce!
Welcome to The Museum of Kitschy Stitches, the astonishingly awful collection of the finest knitting and crocheting horrors the twentieth century has to offer. From hideous hats and gender-bending sweater sets to a set of bonus patterns that will bring the kitsch home, this gallery of notorious knits delivers it all.
Remember, one person’s inspiration can become another’s desperation quicker than you can drop a stitch!
Stitchy McYarnpants is the nom de plume of mild-mannered computer programmer Debbie Brisso, who is making a huge splash on the Web with her “confessions of a husband-neglecting, cat-shooing, yarn-hoarding knitaholic” blog and Web site ( She lives in Boston and often needs to knit for warmth.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Who knew knitting could be so funny?  Sep 19, 2008
This book's photgraphs are side-splittingly funny - but the hilarious sidebars are what make the book so much fun to read. I am just old enough to remember my mom and her friends wearing some of these atroscities - which probably makes seeing them again familiar and cringe-worthy.

Suitable for all ages - only readers under the age of 13 would not enjoy this delightful book - and they would not because they wouldn't believe those clothes actually existed and people actually wore them.

I'm giving this book as a gift to several of my friends - it's that good.
Craft Sacrilege!  Jan 2, 2008
This book is out of sight! I got it for Christmas from a friend in my art group this year. We were supposed to give "found" gifts - nothing brand new. She found it at a resale shop, and she thought it was a genuine crochet pattern book.
Another friend of mine got a hold of the book and was soon howling at the author's commentaries--specifically the "breast pockets" entry. I had to literally take the book from her.
I found the book to be ingenious. Stitchy's comments were sometimes dry, sometimes dramatic, but always sarcastic. I loved it!
And not only were the pictures humorous, but I enjoyed looking at crafts from the past, and found myself, like one poster, wondering who designed these things anyway.
The puncher for me was the clown section as well as the one on granny squares. Yes, there was a time when it was considered normal to create anything with granny squares.
Now, in twenty years, what are people going to say when they look back and see all these things made with furry novelty yarn!
No Stars...No Patterns...  Apr 19, 2007
Disappointing book with no patterns. Sure, there are some humorous pictures but it would have been hilarious to create these works of art. I returned the book..
Still Laughing!  Apr 7, 2007
This book was so funny that even my husband -- who has never knit or crocheted in his life -- was laughing, too. Whether it was making fun of the poses of the models or the items they were wearing, I laughed so hard that I could hardly get my breath. It wasn't just that some of the items were obviously from another era and therefore outdated (ooh, did we really think granny squares were that cool in the 70s? did we really wear our hair that way in the 80s?), it was that some of the items featured were so outrageously stupid that you wonder anyone would have created them in the first place! Case in point: Early in the book there is a rather nice pair of mittens with a matching hat, both knit in bold stripe patterns with jewel-tone yarns. Why did the designer decide to cover it all with little white pom-poms? I'm sure it was to emulate snow as well as to cash in on what was a current craze for pom-poms, but it still looks like (as the author writes) someone lost "the mother of all spit-ball contests."

I've shared this book with my mother, my husband, and numerous friends. Whether or not they knit, they all appreciate the humor of it.
Knitters Coffee Table book  Mar 28, 2007
If you lived through the 60's/70's you can appreciate the hilarity of the styles that Stitchy McYarnpants ridicules in her book. The horror is that some of us actually had to wear similar clothing... Honestly though, the photos were funny and the captions/paragraphs are even funnier!
