the message  May 23, 2010
I really like the comtemperary wording,I don't know if this is really ment to be a Bible,I get a understanding of how Jesus would communicate today and that's good.
The Message Bible  May 17, 2010
This is a wonderful Bible for reading in modern language - although be sure to compare it with other Bibles written in the times of the author. The only problem with this Bible - and I had to return it - was that I had purchased it for an elderly person and she was not able to read the small print. The print shown was from a different Message Bible.
very dangerous  May 10, 2010
While having a paraphrase style Bible is usually an excellent, and necessary addition to every collection, this should NOT be your first choice. It is especially dangerous to give this "Bible" to people who have not studied enough to have proper discernemnt. For "baby Christians", I would recommend NIV, NLT or NASV, or if they need a paraphrase, I would recommend Phillips Translation, Today's English Version (AKA) GOOD NEWS, BBE, or The Lving Bible.

There are SEVERAL scholars that offer criticism to The Message with the implication that subtle paraphrasing may be done with the intent to reinforce certain doctrinal interpretations and minimize others. NO translation is perfect, and I am not one of those "KJV" only advocates, there have been but certain versions fall further away from orthodoxy (small o, refering to "correctness", not capital O, refering to the Eastern Orthodox Churches).
The message is wildly popular, perhaps because it tells people what they WANT to hear rather than what they NEED to hear. It relaxes prohibitions against moral issues making them a matter of personal choice and personal morality. Specificly there are claims "The Message" may tend to minimize "righteous indignation" with occult spirituality or may promote Unitarian beliefs and minimize or even deny belief in the Trinity.
I have found dozens of places where this version may teach dangerous theology, but of course this is not the place for a full essay, so I will list just two.

John 10:30
King James Version
I and my Father are one.

New International Version
I and the Father are one.

The Message
I and the Father are one heart and mind.

Galatians 5:19-21
NIV: "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like."

The Message: "It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religions; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved.... ugly parodies of community. I could go on."

The Message, numbered edition  May 1, 2010
Today I finally received The Message, numbered edition - not a hardback, but leather-type binding, large print - it's great and I plan to enjoy it - starting with reading the book of Colossians which we'll be studying in church, a new series starting this week! Thanks for this new Bible, from my wonderful husband!
The aMessage Rocks  Apr 26, 2010
I enjoyed reading this book. I have alwys been interested in understanding the Bible. The original trnaslations are difficult to understand so the rewrite in easier to understnad language is a great help.
I find the detailed descriptions well-written. I would highly recommend this text to anyone interested in understanding the Bible. Now, perhaps I can finish reading this wonderful book in my lifetime!!
