The Makings of You  May 30, 2009
The merging of parentage leads to such descriptions of children being: A chip off the old block, the apple from the tree, the proof in the pudding. Accepting that who we are is rooted in the genetic makeup and personal habits of our parents has governed the unauthorized paths of the lives of many generations.

Within the pages of The Making of Isaac Hunt, each of the aforementioned adages will be challenged as the protagonist seeks to find the truth of his origin and the road to self-identity.

With skill author Linda Leigh Hargrove gives readers something they can sink their teeth into. Entwined in Isaac's quest to discover the identity to his beginnings, you become intimate with the mindset of a vulnerable young man, heartache brought on by loss, the dangers of unearthing secrets and the value of folksiness and down-home hospitality.

The Making of Isaac Hunt, without overkill provides substance on a variety of subjects most shy away from. It is a novel that speaks to a reality that, at times will pull at your heartstrings, but offers a hope. It is a hope for the future of those holding on to unforgiveness, pain of loss and a past steeped in racial prejudices.

Making of a Great Read  Jan 28, 2009
Linda Hargrove knocks it out of the park with her debut novel. Isaac Hunt offers faith, intrigue, mystery, romance and a tinge of humor. Pace and plot takes the reader on a ride from cover to cover. Description is picturesque without being overdone. The dialogue is believable and tight.
Beautiful Novel about Identity  Oct 8, 2008
Isaac's grandfather is on his deathbed when he reveals to Isaac to that he's adopted. Isaac is a young man that is already facing identity issues...he's a black man with fair skin and blue eyes.
Determined to learn the truth of his past, Isaac goes to the town of his birth where he realizes most people are willing to let the past stay buried.

This book is a touching exploration of identity, written in mulitple points of view and dealing with racial issues, healing, faith, and suprisingly, there's a bit of suspense and mystery. There are some lovely turns of phrase throughout the book as well.

I really enjoyed this read and find that Isaac's quest to know himself is universal. It's hard not to feel his pain throughout the novel. The Making of Isaac Hunt is a strong effort by Linda Leigh Hargrove.
Awesome debut novel  Sep 12, 2008
When I ordered this book it was not at all what I was expecting when I received it in the mail. Being an adopted child I was really excited when I realized what the book was all about. This was a beautifully told story, with great characters that you could easily relate to, and being so close to North Carolina it was like being there almost. I give this book 5 stars out of 5. If you don't grab a copy for yourself your cheating yourself of a great experience.
The Making of Isaac Hunt  May 21, 2008
The level of suspense and the depth of the characters were two reasons why I could not put this book down. Isaac is young, naive and impressionable. I remember that time in my life. I am also a southerner so I could really relate to the small town where everybody knows everybody else.
