This is a wonderful 18 3/4" vinyl doll painted & handcrafted by award winning artist & doll clothing designers. Laylie Colbert is furnished in a classic time period dress which is pink in color of a solid one piece dress. Her dress is adorned with ruffles and tiny ribbon flowers at the waist. The doll clothing also has a plaid sash that ties at the back, and bows of the same ribbon are attached to the sleeves. The special addition Laylie Colbert doll also comes with four additional dresses, a lacy pantalettes, a petticoat, leather sandals, and her little black Bible.

The doll is so beautiful with braided hair tied with pink ribbons and a lovely pink dress as described in the story. The shoes are sandals and not the black button up boots described in the story. The book is not for very young children because of the violent acts contained in it but for children aged 10 and up it is a very good read. The resources in the back of the book also point the reader to more documented information.
I would have liked to see more books in this series because there is a lot more to to be learned about the way freed slaves lived.
