Reviews - What do our customers think?
Good diet  Nov 5, 2006
Regardless of his other problems I think this diet is very doable. Who can't loose 1 lb a week. With this plan you don't have to be obcessed with what you are eating. You just have to be careful.
I Have Hope!  Sep 6, 2006
I have tried years of dieting, exercise, read and tried all the major diet books, you name it, and I when I heard Ted Haggard speak in Boston in February, I was very skeptical. One more diet book, I thought. I went ahead and purchased it anyway, and it took me two months to even open the cover. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! I read until 2:00 am and began to cry. I felt hope for the first time in years that this was the answer to my struggle. Well, it's been 5 months, and I have lost 36 lbs and my husband has lost 20! I feel I can live with this plan for the rest of my life and continue to lose the weight I need to lose. It has been an answer to my prayers.
The book was an easy read and very easy to understand with only a few main points to follow to get you on your way to a new slimmer you!!! I enjoyed all the stories and antedots but most of all I enjoy the new me!! Thank you Ted for this wonderful new way to look at eating, enjoy it to the max and live one day at a time while learning to discipline yourself. If you are looking for quick results stay away but if you are looking for a new, better way of life then get this book, you will love yourself for it.
Liked the book and the concept  Jul 30, 2006
I needed a "diet" that I could live with and still enjoy food. Although the author is not an expert in dieting or nutrition, he gave me the incentive to monitor my weight on a daily basis, exercise daily, control my food intake on "fat days" and basically commit to eating right and making healthy choices. I can say that I have lost thirteen pounds because of this "life style change" over a two month time and didn't have to starve myself or eat unfamiliar, hard to find or hard to make foods. I still can eat my favorites like chocolate covered raisons and not feel guilty about it. I just know that I'll probably have to commit to a "fat day" if I pig out too much. I now know when to cut myself off. All I can say is that the author suggests you read other diet books and take the good out of every book you read. My best advice from all the books I've read is what we all hate to hear but, eat less, exercise more and make more healthy food choices like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Until they come out with a miracle weight loss pill a life style change is all that's really going to work. This book was my miracle and I'll continue to recommend it to anyone who will listen.
Doable without living in a straight-jacket  Mar 29, 2006
Pastor and author Ted Haggard's diet goals are reachable. Lose weight without broadcasting your diet to everyone. Enjoy eating the foods you like. Lose one pound a week. Exercise, but not past your ability. Avoid complex diets and exercise regimens. Get fit - get healthy - have fun.

The first chapter of The Jerusalem Diet is a gem, a paean to the joys of eating: jelly beans, hamburgers, Mountain Dew, and Haagen-Daz. Then Haggard comes back down to earth and tells how, after enjoying the festive food at a conference in Jerusalem, his pants became too tight. He decided to eat the nutritious foods available in all the Israeli restaurants: seeds, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. He swam laps in the hotel pool. In one day his pants fit. Thus The Jerusalem Diet was born, those four foods and exercise, one day a week. You aim to lose only one pound a week, eating, within reason, what you like for most of the week.

As the book progresses Haggard, using himself as an example, gets down to the nitty-gritty of the diet. What you are actually aiming for is to change your eating habits, slowly, so that you end up eating all those good healthy foods the other diets try to crash you onto, but still at times enjoying the conviviality and fun of delicious, but not so healthy foods. He clearly explains his diet principles step-by-step, suggests you tailor exercise to your abilities and needs, gives suggestions for breaking substance and food addictions, and looks at juicing, shopping habits, and getting good rest. Haggard amply illustrates his points with little bios from Jerusalem Dieters' experiences, from those who lost a little weight to those who lost very large amounts.

There is a lot of good advice in this book. The diet is doable without forcing the dieter into a straight-jacket way of life. Many questions are considered. The book ends, "So that's it - the Jerusalem Diet...Now let's go to Dairy Queen!" (177). The Jerusalem Diet is fun to read, upbeat and encouraging. I think I'll put away my ice cream and try it. - Donna Eggett, Christian Book
