Pastoral And Practical Concise Psychology  Nov 16, 2007
Dr RC Sproul has made an important contribution to relationships, human and divine, within the Body of Christ. He has provided biblical leadership and been faithful to see our Christ and Lord honored in conventional and innovative ways.

This book helps us look at our own lives from a reasonable standard of biblical expectations. The chapter named, 'Our Search For Love', particularly impressed me and created an awareness of my high responsibility to the brothers and sisters in Church.

'How important is loyalty in marriage? To a family? To a soldier? To a business relationship? To ask these simple questions is to answer them. We hunger for friends that are loyal, but sometimes we are reduced to begging for crumbs to avoid starvation. It is difficult to know in advance who will remain loyal in times of crisis.' pg 54

'The biblical concept of loyal love is augmented by the statement: 'There is a love which covers a multitude of sins.' 1 Pet 4:8 On the surface this seems to be a celestial Watergate, a sanctified covert op of stonewalling. But that is not what loyal love is about. Biblically, such love assumes a context of forgiven people who struggle daily to improve their obedience to God, tho frustrated by frequent failures. It speaks of a love which is tolerant and patient...Love demands excellence, and it affirms people by expecting responsible behavior from them.' pg 57

A truly helpful counseling resource, with many helpful insights throughout.
Dignity, Hunger to Love  May 27, 2006
Life brings pain into people's lives; the price we all pain for sin . I am called upon by God to love my neighbor as myself. I am not to inflict pain on believers and unbelievers alike. This means I should avoid certain slights, insults, or other behavior that may make another person seem less significant am not to belittle others who walk upon this planet. My rude behavior may result in another feeling less dignify. Hunger for Significance is a book about treating people with dignity. Dignity is the most used word in this book. R.C. Sproul does not teach a person how to put his stamp on this world, to lead huge numbers, or other worldly measures of succeeding, but how to behave toward each person with dignity. To treat each person as one with significance. whether it is people you converse with daily, those you work for, those who work for you or how you vote. This is a book written to a Christian audience. It is an encouragement to evaluate ones consistency of Faith and treatment of others. He explains a problem and how it should be resolved. How doctors should tread their consumers{patients}, how the patient should treat their physician, how nurses treat those under their care, How patients should not treat CNA's or nurses as servants, but professionals. How parents and student should recognize teaching as a profession, How teacher should respect students. R.C. Sproul diagnosis problems in the criminal incarnation: Homosexual Rape, body cavity search, reused underwear, and he pleads for more humane dignify care. He ends the book by discussing labor relations, labor philosophy, and how to treat each other with dignity even though part of the adversarial relationship . One should be able to look upon oneself as a part of society after reading this book and be reflective how one treats others who God has created.
The Hunger for Significance  Sep 7, 2005
Sproul presents a clear, concise, succinct, and articulate presentation of finding dignity in an undignified world. This is must reading for all, especially those who feel insignificant in their day-to-day relationships with others.
Excellent Study Book for Parent Groups  Feb 14, 2002
Everyone wants to "be somebody." In an informal conversational style Dr. Sproul discusses the hunger for significance, the urge to be some body. He does this in ten chapters. First comes our search for personal worth. We want our lives to count. That desire is as strong as the urge for food and shelter. Next is the search for love. Here t he author with the qualities of love. Loyalty is one facet sometimes ignored. Love is abiding, durable and sometimes blind. Love is strong yet fragile and easily wounded by thoughtless words and deeply comforted by praise sincerely meant.. Following that is the search for dignity. What is dignity? The study continues with discussions of dignity in various settings including the home, the school the hospital, the prison, the work place. At the close of each chapter there is a set of discussion questions. The book in unified yet each section can also stand alone. Reading this volume is a tonic and a warning to the reader. How much our lives impact on others and theirs on us is illustrated by the discussions. Parents reading this will see many places which speak directly to the way they should interact with themselves and the other family members. While perhaps not designed as a book specifically for parents, this would be an excellent study for parent groups. According to a story about William Jennings Bryan who when question as to why he wore his hair as he did, replied, "My wife likes it that way." That may be the best reason for doing something!
Great layman's approach to Chirstianity  May 27, 1998
This is a great book for anyone wishing to explore Christianity on their own terms, or for anyone who is intimidated by the Bible or its interpretations. This is a great book of self exploration and how your personal life is fulfilling your most basic spiritual needs. My only ciriticism would be the books lack of structure toward the middle, and its inability to stay 'on the path'. Otherwise, great read for anyone.
