Item Description...
A groundbreaking treatise based on fifteen years of research, Torsten Link's classic study of the flintlock has been acclaimed for decades as the essential book on the subject. His passion for this historic weapon was almost as remarkable as his precision and his eye for detail. From his post as Director of the Swedish Royal Armory, he traveled far and wide to inspect thousands of rare weapons stored in private collections. His illuminating volume encompasses the development of this essential hunting and fighting tool, and it is without equal as a reference for flintlock collectors, dealers, or owners—or for anyone with an interest in weapons and history.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Flintlock   May 3, 2008
This book is very informative especially about the origins of the flintlock. Unfortunately there isn't sufficient detail about later developments. Although many profusely decorated arms are pictured and studied there isn't much information on late 18th early 19th century flintlock progress such as found in English dueling pistols. Apart from being graytone the pictures don't have enough sharpness nor clarity.
Flintlock  Dec 19, 2007
This is a great book for any gun enthusiast. With detailed pictures chronicling the history of the flintlock, this book really takes you into the construction, evolution, and decoration of the flintlock over the years. It is a fascinating read that I couldn't be happier I bought.
Not What You Think  Apr 19, 2007
This book deals primarily with flintlocks from the 1600s and 1700s,all rare museum pieces. This listing of the table of contents gives you a good idea of what is in this scholarly work.

CH#13 Pattern books and decoration - classical Louis XIV.
CH#14 Sigratures.

I like history, but after reading the first several chapters, this book went back the same day I got it. It goes in to very very great detail concerning the locks, but never mentions things such as caliber, what wars they were used in, etc. Very disappointing.

Great book!  Mar 12, 2007
This books appeals to hunters, historians, collectors . . . the list goes on. It's a wonderful read, and the illustrations and photographs are superb. I'm very satisfied with this book. I highly recommend it!
