Good mentoring overview from Christian perspective  Apr 2, 2007
This is a well written, easy to read overview of mentoring from a Christian perspective. Clinton and Stanley write from the perspective of extensive studies of leaders (about 1,600 case studies so far), and they have found that most leaders who finish well experienced mentoring some time in their lives. From this baseline, the book moves on to consider 9 different types of mentoring, organized in three classes (active, occasional and historical). Each type of mentoring has a good overview, definition, and hints on when the mentoring type is most useful. For those interested in Clinton' Leadership Emergence Theory, the authors tie mentoring in to the Ministry Time Line. The only reason I don't give the book 5 stars is that it's a little shallow. (Those interested in an in-depth treatment would want to get Clinton & Clinton, The Mentor Handbook, published by Barnabas Publishing.) But the book is an ideal very quick introduction for someone new to the field of mentoring, especially from the Christian perspective. By the way, for a "non-Christian" audience, I think the book would still be quite helpful, although some of the Christian terminology might be annoying.
