Tim Lahaye Prophecy Library series

"The Second Coming Under Attack"

Tim LaHaye, author of the megabestselling Left Behind® series, teams up with prophecy expert Thomas Ice in response to a growing controversy about the last days!

*Has Jesus already returned?
*When was Revelation written?
*Is the rapture a contemporary idea, or was it supported by early
*Where do we stand in God¿s prophetic timetable?

Along with other prophecy scholars, LaHaye and Ice reveal the errors taught by preterists (those who believe the seven¿year Tribulation and Christ¿s return happened in the past). They provide guidelines for interpreting Bible prophecy and give readers a concise understanding of what the Bible says about the future, affirming Christ¿s glorious return as an event we can still look forward to.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
It was an okay response to Preterism  Feb 10, 2007
I found the book to be okay....but not impressive. The problem is that it was a collection of individual articles from different contributors and put together as a book. This cause unnecessary repetition and duplication. So some chapters I lost interest in.

However as a wrok to deal with is a worthy effort. In particular their misuse of Josephus to prove that the Olivet Discourse and the Revaltion was fullfilled on A.D. 70. So use the book as a refernce to further your own study on this subject.

This book fails to address the words of Jesus Christ concerning "the last day" in John 6:39-40; John 12:48 and John 5:28-29 which are the basis for the historical view on this subject.

We interpret the unclear verses of the Bible by the clear ones.

Jesus says: "Everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:40).

"At the last day" - not 7 or 1007 years before the last day as this author believes.

Jesus says: "There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words. That very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day." (John 12:48)

This author needs to accept the very words of Jesus Christ when He says "at the last day."

Jesus says: "The hour is coming when all who are in the graves will hear my voice and come out. Those who have done good will rise to live and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned." (John 5:28-29)

This author changes the words of Jesus and tries to insert 1000 or 1007 years between Jesus' call and ignores the word "all". (See also John 11:24)

See 2 Peter 3:10-13 for a description of the last day. The rest of the Bible agrees with Jesus Christ not this author.

Excellent Answers to the Preterist Position  Nov 19, 2005
THE END TIMES CONTROVERSY is a book with a series of chapters written by various theologians of the futuriest viewpoint of the Book of Revelation and the second coming of Jesus Christ. The book is written in response to the heavy output of material that has been coming out over the past few years from the preterist position. Many in the Reformed and Restoration movements of the Church of Jesus Christ hold to a preterist view of the book of Revelation meaning that much of what John wrote in Revelation has already been accomplished by A.D. 70 with the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple.

I found the book to be well written and quite easy to follow. The terms will not leave you wondering what the authors are addressing nor will you find a mean spirited book. While the authors disagree strongly with the preterist view, they do so in much grace and love. The chapters deal with one aspect of the preterist position or with a certain biblical passage such as Matthew 24-25 or Jesus' Olivet discourse.

In conclusion, this book is highly recommended. I first bought this book because I had been reading many preterist books and they oddly enough were beginning to make sense to me. Having been a futurist for my entire Christian life, I struggled with providing biblical answers for the rapture, the second coming, and the future 1000 year reign of Christ. Thankfully I am now armed and ready with the authors of this book. A good read!
Not all some make it out to be...  Jul 29, 2005
Simply stated, this book hardly does much damage to the preterist view, and certainly adds nothing new to the discussion. Anyone who says it does could perhaps be better read. I don't count myself an expert, nor do I hold dogmatically to any one eschatalogical view yet, but I believe that Futurism has a long way to go.

I find that too many of the Futurist arguments require some form of circular reasoning. One interpretation is espoused because it needs to fit in with another interpretation, while that other interpretation is espoused for the same reason. I realize I should be giving examples, but as this is an this site review and I am tired... hehe Besides, there are plenty of books that do all of this, from all sides.

The bottom line is that the Futurists (here the authors of this book) need to come up with better answers to the objections of not simply preterists, but others, when it comes to timing, "gaps", apocalyptic language considerations, and so much more, and not simply offer explanations that are born of their other poorly developed conclusions.

Anyways, as the back of Kik's book, An Eschatology of Victory ( I think that was it) says, people have a tendency to pick up books on eschatology, see where the author is coming from, and then either grab it up if it goes along with their own view, or condemn it if it does not...without even a read. Things will likely not change. A plea: hold tightly onto Scripture, and not a system and see if truth might not prevail.
I never really got into Lahaye's end times novels, but I really enjoyed this book. I found his arguments sound and biblical, and full of practical information for the lay reader. He knows his material and writes with the confidence of a true biblical scholar, though he does not claim to be one. A great introduction to the various end times theories that are out there.
