Excellent information, great speaking voice, practical application, I really enjoyed it. I would probably consider this a "must have" if you are interested in the tools of conflict resolution. Very applicable to any relationship; work, children, friends, and not just the marriage relationship.

We are currently viewing the video session that goes along with the book in our Sunday School Class. Dr. Smalley and his son Dr. Smalley do a really good job of allowing you to see yourself in the situations while reading the book. Recommend for anyone who are in any type of relationship especially a marriage.
	Invest your money in a Counselor!  Feb 15, 2007
I thought this book would give me the answer in "5 easy steps" - but it only reinforced the need for feedback and direction from an outside source (a counselor). The ideas and transparent stories are great, however, I don't see how a layperson could actually follow through with the advice in the book without being in a workshop or therapy setting where there is definite interaction and feedback resulting in measurable progress/resolution for a positive outcome. Whew! That was a mouthful! If you are really having marriage or relationship difficulty - invest your money in a trained Christian marriage counselor who will "cut to the chase" and truly help you solve your problems. Self help books promise hope of change - but if you're like most people - being a doer of the word is difficult/impossible if you're not being held accountable. It also takes time (it's not instant) for people to digest the guidance and work through their issues. Fear, pride, procrastination, & temptation can get in the way of change and the endless cycle of self sabotage continues... For crying out loud - Cut to the chase - Get a counselor - and be healed!

After having participated in a small group featuring Gary Smalley's Hidden Keys to Loving Relationships, I couldn't wait to read The DNA of Relationships, and I wasn't disappointed. His openness in sharing his own experiences, his humor, and his down to earth writing style made this book enjoyable to read, while identifying destructive patterns in relationships and how to avoid them. His common sense approach to change is non-threatening to both genders, because he focuses on changing yourself, not the other person. This book was my favorite Christmas gift to give!
