Item Description...
2005 Gold Medallion Award finalist! Was Jesus really married to Mary Magdalene? Did they actually have children who intermarried with the French royal family? Has the church been hiding the truth for centuries? In his best-selling work of fiction The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown blurs the lines between history and fiction, giving the impression they are one and the same and that Christianity is based on a lie. In The Da Vinci Deception, Dr. Erwin Lutzer, well-known theologian and pastor of the world-famous Moody Church in Chicago, examines the "facts" behind the best-selling novel, clarifies the issues involved in the deception, and equips readers with the truth.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
This is a waste of time  Nov 26, 2006
I find it hilarious that books like this come into print when some fanatical pastor decides that he must "set his flock straight."

The Davinci Code is FICTION! Said it with me again. FICTION!
It may take some of it's background from history but at it's core
it is nothing but literary entertainment.

And anyone who feels compelled to change his/her religious beliefs
because of it or has to get the "truth" from a Davinci Basher book
is a f**king moron!
Concise, accurate, useful  Jul 13, 2006
Excellent book. It starts with a concise review of _The DaVinci Code_ for those unfamiliar with it, then moves into a critical examination of the major points the book makes. Because it does not get bogged down picking out every inaccuracy in _Code_, it is short and easy to read.

This book is a must-read for anyone who believes the allegations made in _The DaVinci Code_, and for anyone who has been questioned by someone who believes them.
Just nice  Jun 30, 2006
This book is not meant to be a highly detailed and scholarly presentation of the subject. But, if you're looking for a book which is just "nice" and you really want to know about Da Vinci Code, I think this book will, at least, serve as an appetizer. If, after reading this book, you feel like you want to study more, there are plenty of other books out there =)
Fast Read: Thorough Analysis  Jun 26, 2006
The only complaint I have about this presentation is that it was a little less brutal than I would have been had I written a similar response to Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. The kindest thing Lutzer said about it was "As fabrications go, The Da Vinci Code is right up there with Elvis sightings". Obviously, that statement may not endear anyone to read Lutzers issue but you do yourself a disservice if you do not read it, especially if you are impressed by supporting documentation. I dislike unsupported allegations and broad stroke criticism sponsored by anyone with an obvious agenda. No so with Mr. Lutzer. In a brief span of 117 well supported pages, he makes chopped liver of Dan Browns controversal novel which , had Brown been honest about its whole cloth content from the beginning, none of this factional divergency would exist. But then, controversy sells copy. It's just too bad that it is at the expense of Jesus Christ or is it? The only other complaint I have is that I had to buy my book from a secondary source. Shame on you this site. You should have this issue on hand. Good read. Good sources.
A short but excellent job of debunking Dan Brown's myths!  Jun 7, 2006
Many who read Dan Brown's book or see the movie may be unfamilar with what the Bible really says about Jesus, Mary Magdalene, or the Church. Sadly, other film makers have often added or taken away from the real story. That Saturday Night Live sketch about improvising a movie about Jesus comes to mind. This author does a great job about dismantling Dan Brown's house of cards. True Christianity treats men and women equally. Their roles may be different. But neither is a second class citizen in the kingdom of God. Read how we got the canon known as the Bible. What did Jesus really say about Himself? This book could have been longer. There are footnotes in the back. There's one thing I wish that he'd addressed. In the Spirit Filled Life Bible, Freda Lindsey offers an interesting theory. Since Mary Magdalene associated with older women, perhaps she was their age too. Regardless of your feelings about the book and movie, you should read this book. The author also gives a salvation message at the end.
