Reviews - What do our customers think?
This book is Excellent!  Jun 21, 2007
In all honesty, I had every intention of reading this book. I was dedicated to read this book as soon as I finished the book I am currently reading. However, once I looked the book up and saw the reviews, I was so intrigued to figure out some of the negative reviews that I stopped everything and read it immediately, cover to cover. This book is an excellent book. I am almost positive to say that some of the reviews were from people who haven't really read the book. The illistrations have nothing to do with degrating the reader nor does the book put down an individual based on who they are. There is nothing in this book that suggests that at all. It does, however, state that if you want to succeed you have to "fight" for it and also that if you want to whine and wimper about feeling sorry for yourself then you are going to lose the battle in life because life calls for strong bulldogs not sissy poodles. You have to have a bulldog attitude and go into life wanting to conquer and not bail out when things get hard. That statement is in fact true. I have given this book to several adult friends and several teenage kids that I know after reading this book. Pastor Doug Giles simply speaks truth in this book and If you are going to scrutinize the truth then I would have to state that you must be a poodle who bails out and doesn't "fight" for your life and beliefs. This is a fantastic book for all ages. It is an easy read, easy to understand book as he uses the perfect example to encourage the reader. If your looking for a change and can't find your direction this book will be a great place to start.
Very motivational and inspiring  Sep 2, 2006
Some readers may not care much for Giles' brand of saracasm, slaps at celebrities such as Michael Jackson, and so forth. I have three words for such readers...GET OVER IT! Stop being so sensitive. Ignore the delivery if you must and focus on the message.

Giles is on target. He skewers the Christian (and that's who this book is directed at, not the nonbeliever) and slaps him or her around. He makes us ask ourselves, "Am I a poodle, making excuses, going with the flow, listening to the Word but not putting it into practice?" I found myself really convicted by this book - really challenged to not only get The Bulldog Attitude going in my life, but to start looking for ways to make God's word a means of action, not just belief.

The book is entirely consistent with Biblical principles in every regard - especially the book of James in Scripture which calls on us to be believers of action, not words. Giles also demands that we figure out what you want and how you can serve, get to it, and never, never give up. Again and again Giles wisely invokes the image of the bulldog as a breed that takes on bigger, meaner dogs and wins through sheer perserverence. He cut my ego down to size and showed me where I'd let the Lord down, big time, as I was reading this. And he made me realize that I'm not doing the Body of Christ a darned bit of good by sitting in church, praying, and arguing on the Internet if those are the only things I do.

The only way I could improve this book would be to suggest that Giles include more specifics for the Poodle-turned-Bulldog. He says, "Now get to it," but I'm asking, "How?" WHERE does a person start? What acts does he or she undertake? What are some simple and practical ways to adopt The Bulldog Attitude in everyday life?

This book provides a much needed kick in the pants for the lukewarm Christian, and some much-needed encouragement for those who are already "hot" and giving life their all.
cool an easie  Apr 26, 2006
I got this book frum my dad and read it and can say its cool, this guy is reel tough and has the right attatude. hes reel down on my leval witch is cool becuse I can get what is sayin...this book is simple and easy like sacxool.
Shallow  Apr 25, 2006
All four of my sons read through this piece of garbage and came away with a "so what?" response. My teens are tired of adults (or "adults" who try to act cool to be accepted by kids)who use teen lingo to communicate. They just want to be addressed as real people and as mature young people. I read the book and agree with their points, and am left with the distinct impression that Mr. Giles is full of himself. This "tough guy" approach and name-calling is a real turn-off in my book. Hey, Doug...give some straight forward arguments minus your witless sarcasm, and write in a logical way so that we plebians can understand. I'm sorry that we are all dimwits and need middle-school condescending language in order to understand. So...what's you point again???
Is that all there is?  Apr 21, 2006
I don't know, I was expecting a little more bang for the buck, but instead a writer who seems to show his "manliness" at every turn. Where's the humility? Seems other reviewers have picked up on it too, but for a pastor, I would expect a different approach. I checked out another of his books, "Babylon," and was struck with how bad it is written, amateurish. It seems to me that Christians should be extra careful when it comes to writing and presenting Christian ethics to the world at large. People do judge a book by its cover. In this case, once I realized that the contents were pretty shallow, even for a younger group to digest, the cover started looking better. I hope in the future Giles takes a more thoughtful approach, not that there wasn't anything thoughtful in the book, for he does make some relevant points. there's just something negative that underlies the book. I think of Francis Schaeffer who, in all of his books, took a really positive approach and never, ever demeaned anyone. He didn't have to because he was comfortable in his own skin, so-to-speak, and was not threatened by anyone or any system of thinking. Maybe in time this author will mature and we might see a different attitude...aha, maybe the sequel to this book might be "The Lapdog Attitude," that is, a dog that is a people-dog yet who knows how to watch out for his own territory.
