Item Description...
Papa Bear tries to teach Small Bear how to find honey in a honey tree.

Publishers Description
According to Papa Bear, a bear must use his “smarts” to search for honey. When he brings Brother Bear along on a hunt for honey, it takes more than a few missteps to outsmart the Bears.
"Carried along by rhyme and rhythm, enlivened by humorous, colorful illustrations."--Chicago Tribune.
Stan and Jan Berenstain were both born in 1923 in Philadelphia. They didn't know each other as children, but met later at school, at the Philadelphia College of Art. They liked each other right away, and found out that the both enjoyed the same kinds of books, plays, music and art. During World War II, Stan was a medical assistant in the Army, and Jan worked in an airplane factory. When the war was over, they got married and began to work together as artists and writers, primarily drawing cartoons for popular magazines. After having their two sons Leo and Michael, the Berenstains decided to write some funny children's books that their children and other children could read and enjoy. Their first published children's book was called The Big Honey Hunt . It was about a family of bears, who later became known as the "Berenstain Bears".

Over 50 children's books later, Stan and Jan still plan all of their books together -- both write the stories, and both write the pictures. They live outside of Philadelphia in the country.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
My son loves it!  Sep 25, 2007
I have this book, The Big Honey Hunt, from when I was a kid. I found it recently in a box of books from when my older sister and I were growing up. Needless to say, it has seen better days (the cover just fell off). I started to read it to my 22 month old son a few months ago and he loves it! We'll read it night after night to the point I want to hide the book so we can read something else. My husband and I both know it almost word for word. I realized that I needed to find another copy of it before it fell apart in our hands. I was really surprised that they still had the book in print. Now my son can read this book for a long time and pass it on to his new baby brother.
A fun storytime book  Nov 10, 2006
My 2-year-old loves seeing Papa Bear get into trouble. We already had the Bear's Christmas, the Bear's Vacation and the Bear's Picnic, and she loves those too. The punch line, where Papa decides the best honey comes from the store he passed in the beginning, is lost on her but she looks forward to all the animals coming out of all the non-honey-trees to attack poor Papa.
Kind of fun, but I prefer the later Berestain bear books  Dec 29, 2005
This is a fun book with some excellent learning points to it, but I think it has lost some of its magic with time, and certainly the later Bear books are much more popular with my two girls.

This, I think was the first of the Berenstain Bear books, Papa bear gets sent off with his son to buy some honey - but of course a smart bear doesn't buy it from the store, a bear finds his own honey.

The search takes Papa and his son through all kinds of adventures, as Papa bear teaches his son how to find honey - looks like, tastes like, feels like, smells like and so on. Like I said, these are nice learning points.

Anyway, a nice read but not one of the favourite kids books - the Circus of C and Bike Lesson are much more fun Kids books in the Berenstain range.
the big honey hunt  Oct 12, 2005
the book was in much poorer condition than indicated in the ad.the cover was yellowed, worn and shabby. all the pages were intact.very disappointed.
Classic  Sep 15, 2005
"The Big Honey Hunt" deserves its enduring status as a classic: a father-son outing with humorous misadventures; loose rhyming structure; map-like graphics easily understood by children; and obvious family affection. The "message" is understated and the story is good fun for all.
