More About Janet Spaeth, Kathleen Y'Barbo, Bev Huston & Rhonda Gibson

Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! In first grade, Janet Spaeth was asked to write a summary of a story about a family making maple syrup. She wrote all during class, through morning recess, lunch, and afternoon recess, and asked to stay after school. When the teacher pointed out that a summary was supposed to be shorter than the original story, Janet explained that she didn't feel the readers knew the characters well enough, so she was expanding on what was in the first-grade reader. Thus a writer was born. She lives in the Midwest and loves to travel, but to her, the happiest word in the English language is "home".

Cute Premise, Okay stories  Oct 9, 2007
Four little boys make a pact to remain unmarried until they are "really old" - like 30! They use their allowance as membership dues in the "Bachelor's Club". Whoever breaks the pact and marries, forfeits his money. That is the story that binds four romantic novellas. Overall, this was a worthwhile read, but nothing to really shout about.

"The Rescue" by Kathleen Y'Barbo is the story of Adam and Amy. He's a veterinarian working in his hometown. She's his childhood sweetheart who left him at the altar and became a big-name Hollywood actress. Can Adam forget the past and help the lady he still loves?****

Rhonda Gibson's "Stealing Home" is Will and Charisma's tale. Will befriends a lonely young boy through the great American pastime of baseball. Can he also win over the boy's beautiful sister? This is a well-told story that really touched my heart.****

Isaac and Brooke meet on the set of a game show called "Right For Each Other". This story, told by Bev Huston was creative, but ended rather abruptly. I still enjoyed the comedy of errors plotline, though.***

"Joyful Noise" is Janet Spaeth's contribution to the "Bachelor's Club" stories. Joseph and Rosa met eyes across a crowded church and seemed to fall deeply in love on the spot. This story was flavorful, but too far-fetched.***
Fun premise and a fun read  Apr 14, 2006
I love novella collections, and this one is cute. The premise is interesting and the four authors do a great job incorporating the theme of the book in their stories. A great way to spend a rainy afternoon or a few hours at the beach.
Four entertaining Novellas  Mar 20, 2006
Four young boys decide to start a club for guys who won't get married, at least until they're thirty years old. They put half of their allowances in a bank account, agreeing anyone who gets married before the deadline forfeits his share. However, as everyone knows, little boys grow up to be big boys and their attitude toward girls can change.
THE RESCUE by Kathleen Y'Barbo

Adam Chambers was less than happy when Amy Foreman showed up in his rocker, on his porch. With less than two months to go until he reaches the magic age of thirty and the chance to collect his share of the Bachelor Club Fund, the last person he wants to see right now is the one woman he'd ever been willing to marry.

Amy is on the run. Her Hollywood career has blossomed, she's billed as the next Grace Kelly, but there is a problem. Her business manager, Ed Moore has systematically looted her bank accounts, and threatens to tell everyone she has a drug problem and blew her own money to support it.

Adam doesn't want to get involved with Amy again, but how can he turn away when she needs his help. More to the point, can a small town veterinarian and a famous movie star work out their differences? Will Adam be the first to break away from the Bachelor Club?

STEALING HOME By Rhonda Gibson

While Will Lovelace dated a lot of girls in college, he doesn't remember Charisma Diner. She's never forgotten him though, and the way he dated all of her friends but never looked at her. Will, a charter member of the Bachelor Club, never got serious about any girl. He figured he could play the field until he turned thirty.

Charisma has been responsible for her young brother Joey, since their parents death. Her floral business keeps her busy, and she didn't realize how much she was neglecting Joey until he met Will at the ball diamond. She doesn't want Will in her life, but how can she deny a lonely little boy their friendship?

Will is determined to remain single until he's thirty. It's not that he needs the Bachelor Club money; it's the principle of the thing. With only three of the club members left unmarried, does he really want to drop out? Unfortunately, he can't stop thinking about Charisma, but can he convince a woman who knows him only too well that he has changed?

Isaac Brooks was the prankster of the Bachelor Club, but a terrible tragedy changed him forever. Prone to panic attacks, he doesn't do well in stressful situations. When he's mistaken for a contestant for the Right for Each Other Show, he finds himself on the set with a woman named Debbie, whom he's never seen before. Debbie whispers that his name is Anthony, and he's her fiancé. The real fiancé didn't show up and Isaac has been drafted. He tries to tell the truth, but no one will listen. Issac finds himself attracted, not to Debbie, but the Brook Hart, the show moderator.

When Brook learns he was a false contender, she is upset. Isaac apologizes, but she isn't in a forgiving mood. Finally, she relents, but she is here on a work visa. Unless she can get it renewed, she will have to return to London. Isaac doesn't want to lose her, but why would a woman like Brook want a man who breaks out in a sweat when in a crowd. And there's the Bachelor Club. Only one other member is unmarried. Given his emotional problems, why not play it safe, give up the woman he loves and take the money?

JOYFUL NOISE By Janet Spaeth

Joseph Montoya is the lone holdout member of the Bachelor Club. Joseph can't sing a note. Can't even whistle on tune. Why then did he sigh up for voice lessons? Could it be the new voice teacher? Rosa Cruz?

Rose is worried about Joseph's cold, which keeps him from taking the voice lessons he arrives for each week. She occasionally hears an odd sound coming from the men's section of the choir, but that can't be Joseph, can it? She is upset when her best friend tries to set her up with Joseph, but somehow they do seem to fit well together.

As the last member of the Bachelor Club, Joseph is home free. All he has to do is stay single until he is thirty and all of the money is his. Will the monetary lure of the club sound a sour note in his relationship with Rosa?
I really enjoyed this book. A good addition to my bookshelf.
50 / 50  Jun 18, 2005
First two stories are really good. Last two by Janet Spaeth and Kathleen Y'Barbo were not good. They were boring. Guess two good stories for this price is not a bad deal.
The Bachelor Club  Apr 30, 2005
Years ago, four little boys decided they would never marry -- but now they've met the woman of their dreams. Will they be willing to give up their stakes in the club?

This is a unique idea and a very quick read. I enjoyed all the stories in it.
