Item Description...
Overview
St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower, was only 24 years old when she died in 1897. Yet her writings continue to have a tremendous impact throughout the world, making her one of the most popular of all spiritual writers. Sharing memories from early childhood through her life as a Carmelite nun, Therese opens her heart to us. This bride of Christ reveals her passion and longing for union with God. Her simplicity is charming, and we begin to believe that we can travel the path to salvation that she points out to us. Therese called her doctrine "the little way of spiritual childhood." It is based on her complete and unshakeable confidence in God's love for us. As she said herself of the writings that became this book, " What I have written will do a lot of good. It will make the kindness of God better known."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Like St. Therese was speaking to me.  Feb 4, 2010
The best audiobooks create the illusion of a first person dialogue between the listener and the author. This is one of those books. After only a few moments, I felt as though I was hearing Therese herself as she spoke her story. The intimacy and depth of the words and delivery are unmatched here. If you are looking to experience St. Therese, go no further. This audiobook will not disappoint. Other audiobooks voiced by this incedible talent, Sherri Brownrigg include:The Reed of God, Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light: The Private Writings of the "Saint of Calcutta"

This audiobook is annointed!  Mar 12, 2009
If you want to get to know St. Therese, this is the audiobook for you! I'm a Consecreted Carmelite, and I highly recommend listening to these CD's. I've read "Story of a Soul" many times over, so this book is very familiar to me. Don't concern yourselves about what translation you are reading -- these are St. Therese's words, and the the bottom line is ...that the Holy Spirit will bring the message into your heart, no matter what translation you are reading. This audiobook is a very good, and your spiritual life will be greatly enriched for having listened to these CD's. So, go for it! You are investing in your eternity.

Wonderful travel companion!  Jun 3, 2008
I almost didn't buy this audiobook because of the 1 star review criticizing the translation, but decided to purchase it because I figured even an obsolete translation was better than not ever hearing the book. It was lovely. I listened to it on a car trip to and from my college reunion. It was like having St. Therese as my traveling companion. Wonderful. I've shopped on this site for years and never posted a review, but I felt strongly to write this one. I'm also not an audiobook person. Usually my mind wanders after about an hour, but with this book I so much enjoyed listening that I wasn't even worried about traffic or missing my family. I agree with the editorial review, "Sherry Kennedy Brownrigg's narration is earnest and reverential." In the introduction, the translator notes The Story of a Soul is a book people read again and again. Those familiar with Father Clarke's translation might miss it but for others, like me, this was a wonderful way to be introduced to St. Therese's work. I also enjoyed listening to it first rather than reading it because I found distracting St. Therese's punctuation.

An audiobook unfortunately made from an obsolete translation of this great book  May 27, 2007
This audiobook was created in 2005 from the translation of St. Therese's memoir made in the 1950s by John Beevers. The Beevers translation was rendered obsolete by the 1976 translation of "Story of a Soul" by Fr. John Clarke, OCD, published by the Institute of Carmelite Studies. Fr. Clarke's translation, now in its third edition, is universally recognized as the authoritative English translation. It is to be regretted that those who made the audiobook did not use the Clarke translation, which is available in book form at Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, Third Edition
