Reviews - What do our customers think?
This band is far amazing!! Awesome vocals, so loud and good death grunt! Perfect guitar solo's! And don't forget, great drumming! My favorite tracks are "Into Oblivion", "The Epigone", and "Beyong Adaption". This album would be better off without "Night's Sorrow". And their songs are too long, these days many metal bands are trying to keep their songs long. They can at least try to take out at least a minute of their song. But this band doesn't seem like a christian band, they don't say anything about God or Jesus, that's with most christian metal bands. Bands like Alove For Enemies actually sing about Christ. Nice job, boys! I can't wait for their new album "The Physics Of Fire" on March or May 2007!
The New Face of Metal  Oct 8, 2006
Becoming the Archetype is a metal band unlike others. It does have it's screaming parts, but unlike other metal groups this band incorporates piano, progressive, and organ chords that blend in so well with the guitars that you wonder what BTA should still be called metal. Even though it's on Solid State, I wouldn't be put off about it. Don't get me wrong though, it has some dud moments where the melody seems to lead nowhere. However when the music gets good it makes up for all the blank parts.
Songs like "Elegy" (a superbly conducted piece, it uses both metal and classical elements), "March of the Dead"( a chilling organ piece), "Denouement," "Night's Sorrow" (also entirely guitar chords, no metal or growls), "The Epigone" (all metal but still engaging), and "The Trivial Paroxysm" (rock with piano)- these are all worth listening to. In all, BTA is a new Face to metal and definitely surpasses many others. I couldn't stress more that BTA is definitely worth your buy.
Metal In All Of Its Shining Glory  Sep 24, 2006
Becoming The Archetype is a band that deserves to be heard. I have never heard something this melodic, punishing, and original until I slipped in "Terminate Damnation". Don't be fooled by the fact that they are on Solid State records, this isn't dry metalcore. This is pure metal with a progressive and melodic feeling to it. And if you're saying that they're an Opeth carbon copy, you are way too wrong. You may find Opeth to be an influence, but Becoming The Archetype is a whole different ballpark.

This album has some of the best essentials for a pure metal album. Melodic leads, changes in time signature, technical riffs, blastbeats, and speed changes makes this a memorable listen. After hearing this, you will know that they are one of the most talented bands from the United States metal scene today.

The instrumental parts are like none other. "March of the Dead", "Night's Sorrow", and "Denouement" interlude perfectly here. The eleven minute epic song "Elegy" is the band at their best. With the first six-minutes filled with meaningful lyrics, and the second part consisting of two instrumentals, you won't forget about this.

This is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend this. This band has talent and a bright future ahead for them.
Thank God for BTA  Jul 5, 2006
This album off of Solid State records is simply amazing! The vocals are low and poetic at the same time. And to FCVoxBoi: why did you say they can't scream those kind of words? They can scream whatever they want, and they sound good doing it. It is a welcome change from all the gore-based lyrics of Gorerotted, Cannibal Corpse, or Gorgoroth. So lay off of trying to tell people what they can or can't scream. They sound great. Anyway, for newcomers, this album is a great place to start with positive lyrics and good heavy music. Plus, it would be a good thing to do to support BTA because they are a new band trying to get their promising careers started. Get acquainted with metal and support this band at the same time. Pick it up ASAP!
Binary good and bad--marvelous and atrocious  Jun 29, 2006

I loved the guitars, and the instrumental sections were incredible, and I like the throwback to classical metal styling. I liked elements like piano breaks, harpsichords and nylon string acoustic guitars cutting into the middle of the song. The songs were wonderfully structured, challenging, driving, well put together and moving.

Then there's the vocals.

What he says and how he says it don't match the vibe of the songs at all. One song that caught my ears, he is screaming in a death metal growl:
"Yet you are ever worthy of adoration
So how can I for a moment cease to lift my heart in praise?
Your name is glory
My song is victory"
These are not words that are angry, they do not fit the tone of the song, or the tone of his vocals. You can't scream in rage "I lift my heart in praise", it just doesn't fly. Also, although I love the instrumental breaks, he jumps right in screaming immediately afterwards, ruining the vibe. I looked up some of the lyrics, and they are just shoddy beyond reason. From an instrumental perspective, the songs are marvelous and the virtuosity is evident, but from an all-inclusive viewpoint, Demon Slayer is a much, MUCH better band.

In short, they suffer the Godsmack syndrome, shoot the singer or release albums in instrumental please. Besides, of what use are Christian or religious lyrics if they are completely garbled and people are unable to understand them at all? Cloaked praise and worship are dishonest in my book. The level of effort and skill on the part of the other members is in no way met by the vocalist: i sincerely doubt he spent more than an hour or two on each song, total. It's my belief that if each element of the instruments has had dozens, if not humdreds, of hours of tweaking and attention, than the vocal details should match.

In conclusion, if you don't mind, or even enjoy, standard death metal vocal styling, or can simply overlook them (i wish i could with this disc, i really do!), this would rank five stars for you. If you are really into death metal, add two stars: the virtuosity is unmatched. But the vox just tear it down for me.
