Item Description...
The best-selling author of Mean Girls focuses on God's Word to help teenage girls understand who they are so they can make informed decisions about purity and sex, exploring what girls are really saying through their sexy actions, what abstinence and commitment really mean, and God's take on the subject of purity. Original. 42,000 first printing.

Publishers Description
Every teenage girl craves male attention. But how does she know when and where to draw the line? What if she's already stepped over that line? And how can she find her way back? In a culture where hookups and friends-with-benefits are commonplace, how far is too far when it comes to the physical?
The technical virgin, a term becoming all too familiar with Christian teens, is someone who believes in abstinence but allows loopholes in their physical relationships, thereby compromising true purity. In this new book, Hayley DiMarco takes a look at what purity really is. With her straightforward, in-your-face writing, she shows girls
- what they are really saying about themselves through their sexy actions
- what happens when purity is reduced to a technicality
- what words like abstinence and commitment really mean
- what God says on the subject of purity
With candid advice, personal insight, and tough truth from God's Word, Hayley DiMarco will help teen girls understand who they are so they can make informed, godly decisions about purity and sex.

Community Description
Pledging abstinence until marriage can be dangerous.

Huh?! You read that right! The reality is that while you may have decided to save sex for marriage, you may still be having physical encounters--but not going all the way. But being a "technical virgin" isn't just risky--did you know you could still contract an STD or get pregnant?--it can wreak havoc on your emotions and your spirit. Even innocent playing around, like back rubs or tickle fights, could be setting the stage for something more. Hayley DiMarco explains why.

Technical Virgin also answers questions you might be afraid to ask.

* Have I gone too far?
* What is too far?
* If I've messed up, will God forgive me?
* What should I do from now on?

Knowing when to draw the line will help save you the pain "everything but sex" can bring. This book can help you start over with a clean slate if you've already "messed up" and keep your purity intact if you're just starting to get physical with guys. Because purity doesn't have room for compromise.

Female Porn in a Christian book?  Mar 8, 2007
This is one book you must have in your personal library if you work with female youth! This book reviews what you already know & updates you on current happenings, but it also gives a new persepctive on some things I had never even considered. Like "Female Porn"!! Yes, us females find some types of movies to be "eye candy" for us. We end up having unrealistic expectations for our "guys" to be like the chic flics we so dearly enjoy watching. Get the book and read it. I had not realized all us females have fallen into this trap, not just my youth I minister to. I bought this for some of my youth, and other youth workers I know. Recommeneded it on my website too for other youth leaders to check out! This book is a must!
Must Read for parents and teen girls  Jan 29, 2007
Technical Virgin by Hayley DiMarco is another of her outstanding books that pull no punches and have totally plain talk and facts about sex which teenage girls need to know. The statistics of STDs in young teens is appalling, and DiMarco tells the straight facts about how "just messing around but not going all the way" can also cause a person to get sexually transmitted diseases, depression, and other severe health and psychological problems, in addition to the risk of pregnancy. The book is written for Christian girls and their parents but would be beneficial to all teens, male or female, to know the facts. As unbelievable as it seems to parents and older generations, a large percentage of girls from early teens are engaged in all types of sexual activity, even when they have pledged abstinance, because to these young people nothing but intercourse is considered sex. Parents, this is a MUST READ with your daughter.
this book spells relief  Nov 18, 2006
this is an excellent book aimed a specific group of girls or women. It fit me perfectly, and i felt incredibly convicted (in a good, i-want-to-change way). The use of scripture, statistics, and personal stories combined into a powerful guide to staying pure, avoiding situations that might lead to sexual encounters, and finding grace and repentence. It was harsh, but this is a subject that needs to be approached firmly. In our sex-saturated world, we sometimes need a slap in the face to see just how bad things are. This book was a wonderful, moving slap in the face for me.
*Note: this book is intended for girls who have already accepted Christ as their savior.
technically brutally honest  Nov 4, 2006
First off, I'd like to point out that the book reviews from the same reviewer in Denton, Texas, don't say anything about this book. Obviously that person was offended by it and went out of their way to defame this book. Now on to what I have to say about this book. I've read many other books by DiMarco but none hit like this one. For years I have been told by at least one church leader at my own church that unmarried men and women sharing a bed was nothing, that it was harmless. This book is one of the few books I have read that tackles this subject matter bluntly and it actually uses scripture, rather than assume that teens and twenty-somethings are stupid and only need to be told that its wrong and leave it at that. Her approach is completely Biblical. I'm not surprised that people were offended by this book. Rather than be like all the rest of the brainless clutter that fills the average Christian bookstore these days, this book won't make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and leave you with that feeling that it's the other person's fault, not yours and that God is on your side and you can do whatever you want. No, this book is not like that. It talks about the newer trend among people my age, and older, and younger, who do everything but, it tackles the unmarried Christian single adult culture and the teenage dating culture in one move. DiMarco is blunt: she tells you what guys really want. She will tell you how you cause Christian men to stumble and how you devalue yourself when you do everything but. And she quotes scripture to back herself up, including scripture passages from Matthew and 1 John that I have hardly ever heard used in any sermons. DiMarco talks about how YOU need to change, how it MIGHT BE YOUR FAULT, and what YOU can do to change. She admonishes readers to live for Christ not the world, to remember the true meaning of grace (i.e., "its okay to knowingly do things that are wrong, because I'll still go to heaven." doesn't cut it). It doesn't take much to ask any guy even at your church, what is on their mind. Like DiMarco, I've never had a guy tell me that it wasn't on his mind. The standards DiMarco has in here are Biblical, backed by the Bible; when you cause a person to sin Jesus Christ himself said it would be better if a millstone were tied around your neck and you were thrown into a lake. Accountability is biblical, thinking of others, including guys, is Biblical, and so is loving others more than yourself. If you desire to live for Christ, then you set yourself apart from the World. I recommend this book highly. Pull out your own Bible as you read it--DiMarco isn't twisting scripture. That is, read this book if you want to be convicted, if you want to be held accountable. If you want to feel warm and fuzzy and read a book about how men are evil and how you should be able to do whatever you want, don't read this one. It will offend you. If you want another book that talks about how you are right and everyone else is wrong, don't read this one. I'd also recommend that if you are in the latter group that you also avoid anything said or written by Paul Washer, and that you also avoid reading the Bible.
God help us!  Oct 10, 2006
From the positive review here of this garbage book!

Throughout the book, the publisher has placed full page images of teen girls with their boyfriends in 'almost compromising' situations. This is grandly effective in my humble opinion as the images work as visual flash cards for the female reader. Almost as if to say, if you start to find yourself in any of these situations...BEWARE. You're putting your purity at risk!

Instead of using scripture alone to draw a line, Ms. DiMarco piles on statistics about teen depression, escalating sexual behavior, and society's propensity to tell young girls to be like "one of the guys", i.e. that oral sex and other activities are no big deal. As someone that works with youth as a ministry and profession, her methods are very effective.

Yea, we certainly can't believe scripture alone will change anyone!

And if your girls are wearing a True Love Waits ring, statistics show they're more at risk than you might think.

Hmmm, I wonder how those poor girls who think scripture alone is good enough fare in this area?

If you homeschool your girls and know their whereabouts constantly and don't allow them to date, some of the content of this book might be unsettling for you to talk through and wholly unnecessary.

Oh my! Then why not write a book telling Christian to home school their children and know their wherabouts constantly not allowing them to date? (DUH!)

All of these comments came from..
