Item Description...
In the sequel to the Newbery Medal-winning Dear Mr. Henshaw, an abandoned dog helps young Leigh catch the eye of the high school track coach and heal the wounds inflicted by his parents' recent divorce. Reprint.

Publishers Description

Strider has a new habit. Whenever we stop, he places his paw on my foot. It isn't an accident because he always does it. I like to think he doesn't want to leave me.

Can a stray dog change the life of a teenage boy? It looks as if Strider can. He's a dog that loves to run; because of Strider, Leigh Botts finds himself running -- well enough to join the school track team. Strider changes Leigh on the inside, too, as he finally begins to accept his parents' divorce and gets to know a redheaded girl he's been admiring. With Strider's help, Leigh finds that the future he once hated to be asked about now holds something he never expected: hope.

Beverly Cleary Beverly Cleary is one of America's most popular authors. Born in McMinnville, Oregon, she lived on a farm in Yamhill until she was six and then moved to Portland. After college, as the children's librarian in Yakima, Washington, she was challenged to find stories for non-readers. Mrs. Cleary's books have earned her many prestigious awards, including the Amercan Library Association's Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, presented in recognition of her lasting contribution to children's literature.

Her Dear Mr. Henshaw was awarded the 1984 John Newbery Medal, and both Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Ramona and Her Father have been named Newbery Honor Books. In addition, her books have won more than thirty-five statewide awards based on the votes of her young readers. Her characters, including Henry Huggins, Ellen Tebbits, Otis Spofford, and Beezus and Ramona Quimby, as well as Ribsy, Socks, and Ralph S. Mouse, have delighted children for generations. Mrs. Cleary lives in coastal California.

strider book review  Aug 19, 2007
The first time that I read strider I didn't like it ,but it was great this time I enjoyed it a lot more. I would totally recommend this book. My two favorite parts in this book were went Leigh the main character invites Geneva to pick weeds with him and Leigh's composition for his english class during the second semester that was only nouns and verbs. The people that I would recommend this book to is anyone that could relate to loving dogs or loving sports.
GREAT BOOK  Apr 7, 2007
Great book. Great quality also. This is a great book for a child or for a fun, grown-up quick read.
Leigh Botts Is Back!!  Mar 6, 2007
"Come on boy," I coaxed.
Leigh went to the beach with his best friend, Barry, and found a very lonely dog. They named it "Strider". They took Strider home and had joint custody. Strider got very attached to Leigh. Barry got very jealous of Leigh so Leigh decided to give Strider to Barry. To find out the rest you have to read the book!
I think the message for Strider is that taking care of a dog is a very big responsibility.
I loved this book because it was very interesting. You should read it! I think this book is great for children ages 8-12. I give the book Strider 5 stars!
Awesome but deadly book!  Feb 19, 2007
I liked this book alot! But some of the details did not make sence. And if you don't read the story very closley you might get lost! But I do recomened it to many readers!
Poor Sequel  Dec 22, 2006
I thought Dear Mr. Henshaw was great but the sequel was really wrong. The shirt Leigh bought was girly and that's because it was by Beverly Cleary. Sorry Beverly but this is the wrong sequel to Dear Mr. Henshaw
