Item Description...
Demon Hunter, as seen on MTV2?s Headbanger?s Ball and in Revolver?s ?Christian Metal? cover story, have crafted their most elegantly melodic and yet blisteringly fast and thrashy album, set for a November release. The band?s as yet untitled fourth record reunites them with producer Aaron Sprinkle (Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Hawk Nelson) and mixer Machine (Lamb Of God, Every Time I Die). The fans (or ?Hunters? as they prefer) who have tattooed themselves with the band?s iconic logo (a demon skull with a bullet hole through it?s forehead) are joined in their anticipation by the metal masses at large. The album will prove why AOL Music called Demon Hunter one of 10 ?Artists to Watch.? This is the hard rock album of 2007. Be warned!

An already-phenomenal artist takes another big step up!  Mar 10, 2010
I LOVE this album. The songs flow together; the words are amazing. Lead Us Home has become the anthem of my life, and Carry Me Down speaks volumes to me about what death is like for a Christian (the song itself is very bittersweet and I believe accruately reflects a Christian's view on death also). I own all DH albums (except the new one but that will change shortly), and each album has really been great--and each one is somehow a step up from the previous. I don't know how this band manages to do that, but they're SOLID. If you like DH's other albums I don't see how this one can possibly disappoint!
Great Albulm  Sep 17, 2009
This cd is one of Demon Hunter's best. Each song is addictive. I'm still having trouble finding a favorite. Fading away though is my song, it is like my life. I am eagerly anticipating the next albulm of theirs that comes out.
Tedoiusness wrapped in a sweet CD design  Jun 22, 2009
Well, I must first point out that Demon Hunter was originally one of my favorite bands... not so much anymore.

Demon Hunter is renowned for bringing a certain brutality in mix with musical genius; songs that intertwine raging beats and screams with choruses that have great melodies and harmonies. They mix singing and screaming well... at least normally. Their material is generally balanced.

Not true with Storm the Gates of Hell. Here, there is no great balance in the CD's overall composition. The only fully brutal song is the opener: "Storm the Gates of Hell"... It seems I only play the CD's first 3 songs because they are the only ones that do not wholeheartedly disappoint. Every other song has potential, either on the brutal end OR the musical harmony end, but the balance seems to be shot in the face by the albums "sameness" (I won't even mention the awkward lyrics).

If you are looking for good metal... don't look here. Hopefully DH regains the balance they've lost in their last two albums.

Recommended for: people who like sing/scream mix, good musicianship
High level!  Dec 12, 2008

Solid, but a little dull  Nov 7, 2008
I am not really a huge Demon Hunter fan, I liked a couple tracks off of Triptych (sp?), but they weren't that impressionable. I loved Summer of Darkness, but never owned the CD. Honestly, this CD is very solid, I can't deny that, it just does not have a lasting effect, and I don't think it will be remembered. I was hoping for something monumental from Demon Hunter from a musical perspective and they didn't do it.

Some reviewers rave about them being experimental in a few areas, but I think they are exaggerating this a little bit. All of the "experimental" elements in this CD are not that impressive or groundbreaking, while they give another dimension to the album, they are not original or even originally used.

I am not impressed with their vocalist, I mean he's brutal, but so is just about every other vocalist for a decent metal band. He has gotten a little lower and a little higher, I do not consider this amazing, and I do not speak ignorantly. I am a vocalist, I scream and sing, and I can accomplish more on a technical level the screamer for Demon Hunter. I'm not a tenor like their lead guitarist, and I'll admit I really like his vocals, but generally I think most metalheads can agree that Ryan is not the most talented screamer, and his improvements are slow especially compared to the improvement of other screamers and singers from album to album.

So to sum things up, the record is good, if you are into this kind of music, go for it, it just isn't amazing, lasting, or groundbreaking.
