Item Description...
Because listening to sin pollutes both talker and listener, this book explains the tongue's power to defile, and gives practical suggestions for handling negative talk.

Publishers Description
Words can heal profoundly or hurt deeply, particularly words of gossip or murmuring. In his groundbreaking book on the power of speaking an "evil report," Dr. Michael Sedler shows the verbal cues that lead ultimately to the blindness of deception.
Using real-life examples and biblical truth, Sedler shows that every one of us is prone to gossip and murmuring. He illustrates the damage done by these evil reports, both to those who speak and those who listen. But, he explains, we can learn not only to stop these defiling conversations, but to find cleansing and freedom from the pollution they bring. Stop the Runaway Conversation gives suggestions to parents, leaders, teachers, and spouses on how to build one another up by choosing life-giving words.

Stop the gossip  Mar 27, 2008
Good read. Also gives some Biblical references to anyone who doubts that the gossip is wrong. The folks who like to slander the innocent never seem to remember that the Lord called it the serpent's tounge to spread untruths about people, no matter the "reason". I've seen more than one office place that could have used this book.

Stop the Runaway Conversation: Take Control Over Gossip and Criticism

Actually I give this book a 5-star rating. but I give the Publishers Weekly review of this book a zero-star rating. The Publishers Weekly review was so obviously a hit-job by a non-Christian its pathetic, as evidenced by other reader's reviews.

This book is to-the-point, factual, and very helpful in understanding that there IS a spiritual battle out there (and inside people). If one is not interested in it or cannot understand the Christian spiritual side of the issue of gossip then this book might be as uncomprehensible to them as to the author of the Publishers Weekly reviewer.

Convicting and illuminating  Sep 12, 2007
Serving in church leadership, one of the most troubling things I witness that rips the Body of Christ apart from the inside out is rampant gossip. Although the Bible teaches us to abhor gossip, we seem to ignore its recommendations. Dr. Sedler's book dissects the subtle yet important steps that support the beginning of and continuation of gossip. Importantly, he shows that gossip harms the spiritual well-being of all who participate in it, not just those it is directed at. His careful analysis leads to important self-examination and character change that will improve your participation in the Body of Christ.
Top Notch Book...A MUST READ  Apr 2, 2003
I couldn't agree more with almost every review. This book is fabulous. It challenges our thinking, but gives positive approaches to reducing gossip in our lives. As soon as I finished the book, I found it helpful. I read it in one day and wish I would have read it years ago.
This is the second book of Dr. Sedler's I have read and I hope he continues to write. THey are both fabulous. (the other was "When to Speak Up (and When Not To)...great title.
Thanks for your transparency and openness. How nice to read a book where the author admits he has made mistakes and learned (or is learning)from them.
Incredibly the Best![.]  Feb 8, 2003
Most of the reviews of this book by readers have been pretty good, with one review really not understanding the premise of its subject matter. As far as logic, Dr. Sedler hits this nail square on the head, and it pierces through to the heart as well, as he approaches the topic of gossip and the evil report from a biblical perspective. He not only uses the Bible to show examples of what he teaches, but he uses everyday examples as well. A former reviewer claimed he didn't use everyday examples, but maybe he read a different book than the one Michael Sedler wrote.

This is a much needed...and I say it again...A MUCH NEEDED book in the Christian community. We are ravaged by gossip, evil reporting of one another, division, hatred, and strife. Could it be that Michael Sedler is on to something, and those who don't like his book maybe guilty of the same things he instructs about. I know I have been convicted by reading this, and I'll read it again.

Thank you, Dr. Sedler, for an awesome, and one of the most instructive and incredibly best books on the use of tongue in modern times, and I've read many. This is truly a God-honoring, edifying book for the whole body of Christ. Hopefully many will read it and take heed.

Highly recommended![.]
