Reviews - What do our customers think?
Not funny and very annoying  Jun 27, 2008
I have read lots of books but have never had a desire to write a review. As English is my second language it`s not easy for me to express myself.
However, this book annoyed me so much, I just couldn`t resist.
I purchased it because of the good reviews and just couldn't understand what so hilarious about it. Tamara Leigh is trying to be funny, but it looks like a bad attempt to imitate Sophie Kinsella (who I find funny).
And there are so many repetitions that drove me crazy! For instance, Adda`s trying not to give nicknames to the people so she goes "Stick Women...ergh I mean Birgitta" that appears thirty or so times in the book.
And the plagiarism part is totally unbelievable. Who would not read a book that was written by a women who stole your husband and you are in the same line of work as she is? And after reading a few chapters she just didn't recognize it?!
At "bleep" and "bleepity bleep" parts I just gritted my teeth and had to skip all passages because of the Christianity talk. I didn`t know it was a Christian book, but maybe that wouldn't bother me that much if it wasn`t so shallowly and unbelievably written. I don't think any not believer would be persuaded so easily and in such a stupid way. I respect all religions, but I expect others to respect my brains.
The character of Nick is thin and tasteless, Sophia is as she came from a fairy tale and the only character I liked was Joyce.
I could go on and on like this, but this will have to be enough.
I just wish someone warned me about this book and absolutely can't understand all that good reviews...
Redemption  Jan 12, 2008
I loved this book. Mainly because I was waiting for the campy ending of the main character accepting Christ, than realizing she could never write romance fiction again. But instead the author stuck to a more real panning out of the situation. The secretary is a kick. And our main girl is energetic and creative.
I nearly cried from laughing!  Nov 19, 2007
Adda Sinclair is a best selling romance novelist who's hit a stumbling block. She's due to publish a new novel but she can't come up with anything new to write. Her lack of inspiration may be due to her writing nemesis "Stick Woman" stealing her husband away from her. She does however manage to catch the eye of a new publisher who may have more than just a novel interest in her. With a new potential boyfriend and a new contract in the works, Adda seems to be able to start writing again. But then Stick Woman accuses her of plagiarizing her works (when really it's the other way around) and Adda is forced to lay low. Will this be the end of her writing career and her new relationship?

This was one of the funniest chick lit books I've read. Tamara Leigh has definately made her mark in the Christian chick lit scene and she's become one of my new favorite authors. The story is wonderfully written, fresh, hip and informative. I really felt for Adda as she has to put up with her writing rival who is also her ex-husband's new wife. I could not stand those two and what they did to her. I think this may be the first (and probably only time) that I've seen the name Dick used as an insult in a Christian fiction book but not in a bad way (if you get what I'm saying). I cracked up during that scene. I will admit that she handled the situations a lot better than I would. The relationship with Nick was wonderful, I absolutely loved the chemistry between them. I enjoyed reading about what it's like to be an author. It was fun learning about the writing process, the brainstorming, the writer's block. I also liked reading about what it's like to be on the bestseller's list and attending conferences. What I found most interesting was after reading this book, I was searching online and came across an article involving two major romance novelists. The story was the same where one writer plagiarized the other's works. However I don't think they had quite the same experiences that Adda vs. Stick Woman did! This is a fast paced book that you won't want to stop reading. There's lots of laughs in this book so I wouldn't recommend reading it in public because people are going to look at you strange for cracking up in the middle of reading. VERY highly recommended.
Enjoyable read  May 31, 2007
I have always enjoyed Tamara Leigh's books. I just recently found out that she has moved to writing inspirational fiction and that was exciting for me as a Christian. This is the first inspirational fiction book I've read from her.

Overall, I enjoyed Leigh's telling of the story. Adda was funny, sometimes sad, and generally heartwarming. The chemistry between Adda and Nick *chocolates* was evident and built upon well. All side characters showed interesting dimensions except B. Roth (she was very one dimensionally bad). Don't read the rest as there are some spoilers if you don't want to know them.

However, the reason I cannot give this book a 5 star is that there were a couple of plot holes that drove me mad. The most obvious one was the part where Nick shows Adda excerpts of Stick Woman's best-selling book and Adda fails to recognize that it is her writing and story. She just thinks that it seems familiar. This is very unbelievable to me as she is at that very moment also re-working on that same book. At that point, I already knew that plagiarism was going to be part of the story later.

The other contention I had was a smaller scene and not as important but for some reason, really stuck in my head. This is the scene where Adda's writing is flowing in the airplane and the flight attendant comes by and switches the computer off. Firstly, this is unreal as I doubt any flight attendant would do that (do I hear lawsuit?). Secondly, Adda turns the computer on later only to find that it has stopped working completely and she does not make a fuss at all with the attendant (this from a woman who pulls out hair from her archenemy). Thirdly, when she arrives at the hotel, we find that she can work on her computer again and there is no explanation on how that happened. This part just bothered me even though it was not a very important part of the storyline.

I'm glad that Tamara Leigh is still writing and that her stories are told with a Christian slant but I do miss the depths that I found in some of her previous works (Blackheart was an amazing story, as were some of the "Bride" series ones). I will continue to read her and will try Perfecting Kate next.
Excellent!!  Feb 23, 2007
I loved this book! Very funny and a sweet love story. I loved how the author showed us the characters with all of their clumsiness and struggles. I could see God working in their lives in everything that happened. It was a joy to read, and I got so involved with the characters that I hated to see it end. What a great new book by Tamara Leigh; I can't wait for the next one!
