Reviews - What do our customers think?
Appealing pre-teen fiction  Jun 9, 2005
Sophie takes a trip to NASA for a take-your-daughter-to-work day. Of course she learns a lot on that trip and when she and her friends have to do a science project they decide to convert their tree house into a mock-up of a space station. Unfortunately they start squabbling with each other and things soon get out of hand.

To add to the problems someone is sabotaging their efforts, mom is having problems of her own and nothing seems to be going right. Of course things do get resolved and through it all they learn valuable lessons in life based on Biblical principles. Sophie and the Scoundrels is a recommended read.
Friendship Trouble  Apr 27, 2005
Sophie heads to NASA with her dad for Take Your Kids to Work Day. She and the Corn Flakes decide to make a space station model for science. But problems arise. The space station is sabatoged, and Fiona suspects the newest Corn Flake, Maggie, of doing it.

The message about God is mentioned throughout the story, yet it's not "preachy." The characters are likable, yet realistic- they don't do everything right; and, as always, the author's descriptions are so good you can see it all unfolding.

However, the title is somewhat misleading. For a book being called "Sophie and the Scondrels," there's actually not a lot of the Corn Pops (popular girls) or the Fruit Loops (annoying boys) in it. Also, some of the space station talk is confusing, which is why I gave it four.

Still, Nancy Rue is truly blessed by God and one of the best writers around!
Sophie heads to NASA  Apr 15, 2005
Sophie's finally patched up the rift between herself and her dad, so she's headed off to his place of employment for take your daughter to work day-at the NASA place in Virginia. When Mrs. Utley assigns a science project, Sophie decides to apply all the knowledge she learned from spending a day with her dad at NASA to build a fictitious space station with her fellow Corn Flakes for their project. But the Corn Flakes can't agree on anything, Sophie gets in a horrible fight with Fiona, and an unknown troublemaker is sabotaging the treehouse. What's worse is that Mama is going through problems of he own, and Lacie's got boy problems. But when the unthinkable happens to Sophie's brother, she finds most of her problems solved and the rift-albeit temporary-among the Corn Flakes seems to be fixed. This book draws upon the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 in the New Testament and relates it to today, and Sophie learns from other Biblical examples throughout this book. This is book three in the Sophie Series, it is preceded by "Sophie's World" (1) and "Sophie's Secret"(2). A recommended read.
