A Book That All Teens Should Read  Feb 23, 2010
I've seen reviews that this title was too simple and straightforward, but I would have to disagree. I feel this is a book that should be read by all teenagers. Having a 14 year old myself (and her having a friend that faced these issues at only 12), I feel this is an excellent introduction for teens to understand the severity of eating disorders, and allow them to see a glimpse of what someone with this illness goes through every day.

Granted, there was no in-depth resolution, but I don't feel that was the intent. The author skimmed the surface, leaving hints here & there and by the end of the book, I could no longer see where exactly the changes had originally begun. This was one of those titles that stayed with me, and opened up further communication on the subject for my daughter and I. It's a quick read, and something I would pass on and suggest to others.
Unrealistic and Too Simple  Jan 7, 2010
So I admit I'm not a teenager, nor am I religious, so I suppose I don't know exactly how a religious teenager acts and speaks. However, the undeveloped characters in this novel certainly don't sound like normal teens. The voice, to me, seems like how a mother would want the perfect child to sound, naive and never breaking the rules. It was very difficult to believe the story, particularly since there wasn't much of a story to believe. Basically a girl decides to eat less, and that's the story. I "bought" the novel for free, but I feel like I paid way too much in time to read it. I have an interest in eating disorders because they're rampant in my family (primarily bulimia and compulsive overeating), but this story gives no insight or feeling.
Skinny:A Novel  Dec 16, 2009
This book is so took about 2 seconds to get into. If you are a teenager it explains about how easy it is to get into trouble with eating disorders and it decribes how long and hard it is to get out of. For parents it reminds them that kids aren't perfect and you need to help them sometimes. If they are too overwhelmed you have to make sure that they are taking care of their basic needs such as eating.
I am 14 yrs. old and my mom bought this book for me. I highly recommend it for girls my age and older and for parents of girls my age.
Don't bother reading, watch Lifetime instead!  Nov 25, 2009
Skinny was a free Kindle download. Now that it's $9.99 I feel sorry for people who will be paying for it. It's not good young fiction. If I were a teen I would find it laughable. Aside from being painfully predictable, the author uses every cliche. It's too bad because the book does address a serious issue.
Perfect for a Teen Christian Girl  Nov 24, 2009
As the title of my review states, this book is perfect for the teenage, Christian girl. Given I am a man in my late thirties, I kept looking at the dots on the bottom of my Kindle wondering how much longer I had to go in the book. Don't get me wrong, the book has a wonderful message for the young girls who are facing issues in their life. It also has a strong Christian backbone which if you like The Shack or other similar books you will appreciate. Unfortunately, the description of the novel didn't match the content and I was not expecting all of the religious backstory. I recommend this if you have a daughter, but if you are an adult you should pass.
