Item Description...
Cory Brannon joins the crew of the riverboat Missouri Zephyr and must choose sides when the boat's crew is swept into the fighting for control of the river, and after a brief period as a prisoner, Cory finds himself taking up arms again at the Battle of Shiloh

Publishers Description
Cory Brannon's fortunes change when he helps Zeke Farrell defend his riverboat, the Missouri Zephyr, from a mob of Unionists out to burn it. For months, Missouri has been torn between the Union and the Confederacy, with frequent skirmishes in which both sides claim victory. Aware that Federal forces are moving into Illinois, from which they could control the Mississippi, Zeke and Cory decide to make a dash for Confederate waters, taking with them Zeke's daughter, Lucille, who has captured Cory's heart. Landing at Fort Henry, the two men are recruited by the Confederates to defend the fort while the main body of troops and civilians escape. Zeke sends Lucille to Mississippi to live with relatives. Zeke is killed during the battle and Cory heads to Nashville to let Lucille know of her father's death. There he learns that Union troops are headed west to Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee, where Grant is preparing an attack on Corinth, Mississippi. Southern troops in the West are headquartered there.Slipping out of Nashville, Cory heads for Corinth to warn the Confederates, who are already aware of Grant's intentions and are preparing to attack his position before the Yankee general's entire army can arrive. Cory is caught up in the ensuing battle - long, hellish, and by far the bloodiest fighting so far in the war - near an old, little-used Methodist meetinghouse known as Shiloh Church. He survives the battle unscathed, but he has seen things that will change him forever.

Cory On The River  May 8, 2008
Cory Brannon a member of the Brannon family we have not met was working on the river in New Madrid, Missouri. Here he meets Captain Farrell of the "Missouri Zephyr." This book is about Cory's adventures on the river and his love of Lucille, the captain's daughter. The author does tie Ft. Henry and Ft. Donelson into his story. Again at the end of his book is the Battle of Shiloh. By Ruth Thompson author of `The Bluegrass Dream" and "Natchez Above The River"

Manassas through Appomatox  Feb 21, 2006
I have all ten of the Civil War battle series books and enjoy each one. The Brannon family is a very interesting story line, and the battle descriptions are very thorough and well done. I think James Reasoner is a fine writter of historical fiction. I will definately read more of his books.
Better than Book One  Aug 16, 2004
Even if you didn't read book one, this is a good read. This concentrates on the life of Cory Brannon, who was just slightly mentioned in book one. I had to get my hands on book three shortly after finishing this volume. Reasoner does a great job of mixing suspense in with historical significance from the Civil War.
The Brannon Saga Continues  May 7, 2003
In SHILOH, we meet Corey Brannon, the prodigal son of the clan, who has wandered westward to make his fortune. Instead, he is living hand-to-mouth on the Mississippi River docks of New Madrid, Missouri. However, his life is soon to change, as fate thrusts him into the politics and intrigues of abolitionists and secessionists.

Meantime, in Culpepper, Titus continues his pursuit of Polly Ebersole, daughter of the wealthiest planter in the county. Will is off with the Confederate Army, while Mac, the second eldest, will also soon, along with the mysterious wild stallion he's tamed, be fighting for the cause of the South.

As is the preceding volume in James Reasoner's The Civil War Battle Series, SHILOH is a gripping, action-packed tale. the reader's interest is maintained throughout, and while the outcomes of the battles are, of course, never in doubt, the author maintains a high level of tension, keeping the reader guessing as to who will or will not survive.
